Well 2 days ago my car started to idle a little wierd usually it idles at about 800rpm and now its idleing at about 1100 and making a funny sput sput sput sound but it usually makes that sound because i have the crower 402-t's and the lift is very high but the sput sput sput is closer together and faster... so i did a compression test and it was

cylinder 1 - 180
cylinder 2 - 180
cylinder 3 - 90
cylinder 4 - 180

what could be wrong... because if the motor was blown then it would be 0 compression and black smoke would come out and there is no black smoke what so ever that comes out daily driving it or getting on it and if it was a headgasket then 2 cylinders would be low... and if it was a bent valve would it read 0?

need help ASAP... thank you to everyone that can help solve this problem but i think it is a burnt valve...

If you wanna narrow it down do a leak down test. Listen at the exhaust ports. Intake ports,crank case, or coolant system. One of those will be letting more air through and give you an idea as to whats wrong.

but if it was a ringland then the motor would be blown... and compression would be 0... and black smoke would come out from exhaust driving normal and getting on it... am i correct?

Add a cap full of oil to the cylinder and do the compression test again, if it goes up alot then it is your rings. Make sure the car is warm too.

we did that and it went from 90 to 100 and that was it so what do you guys think now?

Leak down test! but most likely is the rings.

x2 either way you will have to take the head off might aswell get the head done, atleast new valvejob.

if it was the rings wouldnt the cylinder not fire... because all 4 cylinders are firing also...

It'll still fire with bad rings, but don't jump to conclusion yet do a leak down test.

doesnt have to be 0 to have bad rings, or cracked ringlands for that matter.

do a leakdown it will tell you where the low compression is coming from

rings/ringlands for sure. I have the same issue with my LS-T. 180,180,180, and 90 were my compression numbers. Poured a capful of oil into the 4th cylinder, and compression went up to 120. I'd suggest you do that test, as well as a leakdown.

only jumping up 10psi with oil is probably not the rings (if your doing it right) the 10psi jump is from there being extra volume in the cylinder. Do a leakdown test, that will tell you what it is for sure; are your valves stock? may have burnt a valve.

ya i have already done the pour oil test and it only jumped 10 more... and yes there stock valves im just hoping its the valves getting burnt
