Default Custom Kit Price

how much should a custom turbo kit cost for an integra, Something similar to the drag III kit. How much should install and tuning cost. I heard building your own kit or having a shop do it will save you around a grand, is that true. Thanks.

I just started putting together my own kit. It can cost less than a Drag/Revhard/FMAX kit, but it all depends on the deals you get. I'm not really one to talk, since all I have is the turbo itself (well, don't have it, but on its way). You just need to be patient and shop around for (a) the parts you want, and (b) the best deals on them.

A basic list of what you need:
1) Turbo
2) Manifold
3) Downpipe
4) Intercooler
5) Intercooler piping
6) Wastegate (unless the turbo you get has an internal one... manifold needs a flange for it)
7) BOV
8) Oil supply/return lines
9) Vacuum hoses
10) Missing Link, check valves, or something for the MAP sensor
10) Something for fuel... simple ways would be a S-AFC/V-AFC, might get a way with injectors or pumps... also could go for a FMU or standalone system like Haltech or Hondata.
11) Might want a turbo timer and a boost controller

This is just a rough list of what I know I need... anyone care to help me fix my mistakes?

Custom will probably end up being more expensive than a prebuilt kit, but if you choose your components wisely it will be better.

Look to spend about 3-5k on high boost applications and 2-3k on lower boost levels.

I spent about 2300 on my custom kit, pretty much included everything even my gauges. Also I only had two used parts my IC and FMU, everything else was new.

There's a local shop (pitcrew motorsports) that does custom kits using a XS Engineering T3/T4 turbo, Spearco/XS i/c, your choice of BOV, and a Tial w/g (and all the other lil things) for $3500 installed. That's actually a pretty good price and if I wanted to do a T3/T4 size turbo, I'd prolly go for this kit since I like XS-Garrett turbos more than turbonetics, it comes with a more reliable Tial w/g, and I get to choose my BOV for just a tad less than buying a DRAG and having them install it. I dunno how much it is if you just order the kit and install it yourself. I'd assume about $500-$600 less. I think they have a website, like http://www.pitcrew-motorsports.com or something. HTH.

the key to succes on piecing your custom kit is one...TIME...
I tried that before, but my job demands so much of me, it was kind ahard to take few hours for lunch everyday running around town to find parts....

I did my calculations, I had all the majopr parts and all I was left out was piping, filter, and oil lines....I was only out 1700...

so you can save money for sure, but it's the time that can kill you....

good luck...and another advice, shop as much as you can from this board, at least you know most of the turbo guys really do care about the car, unlike partstrader, you'll never know what the parts might have gone through before......

I totally agree, as I've been researching the same question. However, check out South Florida Performance, I'm either going with a custom kit from them, or a drag.

You should be spending nothing but time researching it either way. Turbo is a big investment of both money and time. The more you know about it early on the better. Learn how to read compressor maps, it is going to be the most valueable tool you'll ever use. If you need help, let me know. I've been there.
