Default custom B18/B20/LST build... need some suggestions

Alright so my brother and I are going to make a custom B18 or B20 or LST (depending on money). We are going to do an engine swap and put it into a 95 civic or some other kind of light weight coup.

We already have a couple ideas about how we want to do all of it but still looking for some good suggestions about what all parts to use to push around 450-550 horsies. Preferably 550 horses

We have couple ideas like leave engine stock and just put on .57 trim turbo with 750 injectors. Or we were thinking about doing an engine build and just make it all motor, but we dont think we will get desired amount of power.

Keep in mind that we are doing this as a budget build which is why we want to do turbo or all motor, get tuned and my brother will clean/paint it all up, then do the other part of it all, get re-tuned.

As a side note, this is going to take a while so thats why we want to do one and/or the other later on after we get it tuned the first time.

Any advice will be fun/informative to read. Looking forward to hearing your comments...

it sounds like you need to keep reading like no tomorrow. no offense but you don't sound ready to do anything but read up and educate yourself before you and your brother run out and start making mistakes. take the time and read the FI forum and look at other peoples builds so you can get an idea of what you'll be looking at in the end.

just a side note, 550hp on all motor is IMPOSSIBLE on our little engines!!!

Alright. Thanks for the advice. I will do some reading on the subject and look into it more and more. And yea I am coming from 4x4s with inline 6 torque monsters.

And my brother knows a lot about cars. I am still learning a lot. Only been into hondas for about 4 months now.

But again, thanks for the advice. Im gunna go read now.

Yes I have. My brother has a .57 trim (bullseye) on his Accord and we are right around 300-320. He has 450 injectors. I told him to get the 750 but he cheaped out. Plus its his daily driver so he didnt want to risk blowin the motor and gas is a bitch.

And yea, I know its gunna cost some gs but all in all were trying not to waste money. We have a mig and other tools to do most of the work ourselves but there will be some parts we have to order.

Put it this way, were pretty bored w/ fixing our delorean/lotus and we want a fast fun car to drive every now and then. Thanks for your input though.

I'd definately aim a bit lower. The B18B can't take more than about 350whp at Max, before you start breaking parts. 550cc can work up to that power, but you don't need 750 unless you plan to really grow, later. On the B20B, you get even less because the cylinder sleeve durability is rather low compared to the other Bs.

Cant I just upgrade the sleeve? And damn, even with duel cams, you think it wont crank out any more whp?

Im hoping that after we do upgraded rods, pistons, cams and turbo we could reach some good numbers...

Again, Im not an expert at any of this and im still learning so im happy to hear any advice.

I think once you go for a ride in a 350whp lightweight civic/teg platform your opinions wil change about how much power these motors put out/ whats fast and whats not lol

Yea, after speaking w/ my brother he gave me that, "your an idiot" look when I told him about the power I was expecting.

But as I said before, my brother is pushing right around 310 whp with 10psi.

Ok ok ok, new goal for whp will be...... drum roll..... 350-400!

Still would like to hear comments on what all to use for rods, pistons, turbo, cams, and w.e else you guys can think of.

Thanks for the comments

Ok. Suggestions.

Upgrading the sleeves is not an easy process, and needs to be taken to a professional to press out and install. This goes from 900-1200 bucks or so (Still within the budget?).

DOHC, doesn't mean squat if the cylinder head does not allow for the intake charge air to flow well. Either change to a VTEC head or have work done on your original.

350-400 is definately doable with a 57 trim and somewhere around 600 to 700cc injectors (i wouldnt want to run 550s on 400hp at that high of a duty cycle).

an aftermarket piston and rod combo will run you around 700 to 800 and combined with new bearings and stuff will be enough for your bottom end to take that power.

if you use a non vtec head you will need to upgrade camshafts/intake manifold and valvetrain to really see those numbers solidly without having to run tons of boost, especially over 400hp. a vtec head can do that bone stock, or you can even upgrade to a stage 1 cam or like type r cams and make the same power on less boost.

350-400hp in an eg is enough power to run low 12s and into the 11s and trap 115+. which is faster than most cars you will encounter
