Crank Pulley Question?
Hey I have a 1999 Civic si and going turbo... I have a Unortherdox Racing Under Drive Crank Pulley on the car now... I got some info from some people on Honda-Tech, who say its a crap, but woundering if any one has pic on how to remove it, so I can put a stock one back on... I am looking for a new crank pulley but the only one i found for cheap is the type-r crank pulley. You think that would be ok.. Dont understand what they mean by hermonic balancer. Is it in attached to the stock pulley, or to the crank shaft.....

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
oem is probaly your best bet, its not a pulley its a harmonic balancer if you have a shity unotherdox "pulley" you will basicaly put your motor on borrowed time. the oem will help save your bearings from the savage harmonics that resonate in a motor. the unotherdox racing **** is just a pulley not a harmonic balancer.the balancer is jus held by a bolt and has a key that slides in to hold it in place.

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
Ok. Understand the concept.... Do you think i can use the integra type-r underdrive crank pulley or try to find a civic si crank pulley... type-r vs civic si crank pulley are they the same or will it through the crank off balance...

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
USDM Type-r and Civic SI the same, but JDM civic Type-r use only one belt alternator. If you dont have power stearing that would be the bast, othervise OEM is totaly fine. I have 9,500rmp on my LS Vtec and I use OEM one.

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
They have different part numbers because Vadim Golubev doesn't know what he is talking about. His life skills are comprised of sweeping a good floor, and buying stolen parts off of NWSR after being told they are stolen and then pretending he is a victim for buying stolen parts "because I did not know." The guy is mentally defective.

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
Ok do understand that the part numbers are different, but what is so different, the specs, or how big they are, the weight.... ? what?

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
just buy one thats for your car, your over thinking this. If you want to buy an aftermarket one, then get an ati or fluiddamper...as far as removing it, it can be a bitch without air tools or the crank holder....get a buddy to hold the brakes with the car in gear....when you reassembly make sure that woodruff key is still on the crank. bad things will happen if its not there

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
I know that I am overthinking this, but I have an oem integra type r crank pulley. Do you think I can use that instead of an oem civic si pulley, or will it still through it off balance... If not I will try and see if i can get a civic si oem pulley.

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
I dont think you understand what a harmonic balancer does, google it. as long as there is no large chips out of it, it will be fine. I dont know the specifics of all the different balancers though. Measure the diameter of the pulleys...nevermind you dont have a stock one to compare it to. either way its still better than what you have on there. As long as its the correct size hub so it fits on the crank and there are not any large chips in it, it'll work for now. you may have to change belts if your current pulley is an underdrive.

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
Thank you for the reply. The oem type-r crank pulley I have is brand new from acura it was never installed, I got it from a friend. I just don't know much about this stuff and am now getting educated on it thank you. I guess that its safe to use it, and it won't have an effect on my crank due to it being a type-r crank right. It will be equally balenced just like factoy balenced.

Re: Crank Pulley Question?
So your saying that CTR has no ac or ps? Try telling that to all the ctr owners over at ek9.org... You are VERY wrong, only 1 model civic came with that N1 pulley, its been dubbed the CTR Race Base and is a CTR that comes with standard NON-Recaro seats, NO momo steering wheel, no ac/ps, no power windows etc...
