could this be a blown headgasket,or something else?please help.LONG>
ok,crx/sohc with unknown milage, more than likely it has high milage. We put a t25 on it,with intercooler,450's and vafc.
The car is a freinds and he tells me that before we put the turbo on,he drove the **** out of it twice and made the car shut off, overheated it im guessing.
When he brought the car to me it had hardly any water in the radiator.
So i installed the turbo and everything, and its smoking like crazy, like a damn smoke bomb going off,its white smoke, nothing like oil smell,if anything, its more of a gas smell.
Tonight was the first take out with the turbo on it.it boosted up to 10 pounds fine, about 10 times(small t25),then it starts to die and die and die, till it shuts off.We get it back to the house.Feels like its running on 3 cylinders.
plugs # 2,3,4 are white, plug one is black.
compresion in 2,3,4 are 160 and #1 is only 90
there is a black looking substance leaking from the DP,its not oily like oil and it does not smell like gas,im guessing that its water that has mixed with the carbon. It looks like black paint. From what i can tell, there is milky oil on the oil cap,and there was alot of water missing from the radiator.
heres the possabilties i came up with:
blown headgasket< very good possabilty
blown rings<but how did water get into the oil?
cracked cylinder wall<i really hope not,we never boosted really hard
blown piston<but what about the water
Im going to pull the head,is there a deffenent way to see if the gasket is at fault,i mean will i be able to tell just by looking at it?
What do you guys think?Blown head gasket?Or something else?

try dumping a teaspoon of oil in cylinder 1 and doing a compression test. if compression goes up, it's rings...if it goes up just a little...say like 10-20 psi, it's the head gasket. if it's both...i don't know what to say but good luck

the overheating and headgasket failure would be my guess
mike
p.s. check to see if there is oil inside the turbo manifold, if there is..most likely ringlands
