Default contemplating whether i should raise or lower compression.

i don't usually start new threads on this forum, i just read, but i have a question that i've been contemplating after reading a whole bunch of posts on FI.
ok i have a vtec f22b1 turbo accord and my plan is to completely build my bottom end with of course, pistons, rods, and sleeves 2MM OVER.
Since i am completely building the bottom end i'm wondering if i should just leave my stock compression (8:8.1) or raise it to the 9's ???
the reason i want to raise it to 9's is because i want a little more pick up on the bottom end and the boost should take care of the rest on the high end.
plus i also read some mixed feelings about the combustion camber being enlarged (to matched the sleeves) and will lower the compression anyways?????
if that is true and if i go for a little higher than stock compression won't the compression drop back down to stock??
I don't really mind the stock compression but if i set it up at stock i'm afraid it will drop down lower than stock due to the enlarged combustion chamber.... any tips for me? thanks

raise it...

wiseco makes a 9.8:1 CR piston...IMO that's perfect with tuning and built motor, you're unstoppable....

8.8:1 is a lil low, but then again, you;re 2.2L, you already have a bigger displacement in a first place....so a lil more bottom end than most 1.8L

raise it, built your motor, you'll be happy

i would go with higher compression, you could always use thicker head gasket to drop a little compression later.

If you go 2mm oversized none of the head gaskets will fit. How do you compensate for that. Custom?

from your post it seems like you have alot to learn. if i were you i would not built your sohc. it is not worth it. if you want to build a block do a dohc. now if you just want more power out your your sohc with out the cost of the dohc, turbo it. but i promise you it is not worth building a sohc. i am sure some people will disagree with me buit i have a sohc too, and you will just not get your money out of it.

If you reqad his post then you would know he already has a turbo and is rebuilding his bottom end and wants to know the pluses and minuses of a higher or lower compression.

Kind of off the subject, but I noticed you have the same set up. I have a 95 ex accord, vtec and just recently put a turbo on it. i was wondering what kind of boost you do on daily driving and what kind of maximum boost you run. please let me know, also what kind of turbo are you running? thanks

thanks for your replies.. it seems you guys are leaning towards raising it to the 9's... to me 9.8:1 seems a little high. what is the next lowest? 9.5:1? then 9.0:1 ?? I'll most likely probably go with 9.5:1. thanks again for your help.

CovertFI- i'm basically looking for a reliable powerful built sohc turbo. and getting another engine and trying to build that would be too much money for me.. I'm not looking to be the fastest accord in the us ..but thanks for the suggestion.

niedejb0- cosmetic can make custom head gaskets.. i've read many times here that people like them... the HP gaskets.

forcedaccord95- at this time I'm running the drag 4 prototype and it seems to work great. i boost around 5-7 psi daily... i haven't really punched it cuz I still need to order a boost and EGT guage.. so basically granny driving for now.. but when i go half throttle it pulls real hard.

Cometic makes a custom headgasket...for less than 100 bucks, inline pro can do that as well..

as far as CR, check with individual piston MFG

riase that... 8 is way too low unless you plan on running major boost. But at the same time it makes tunning all the easyer.

why is it that some people say "lower compression for boost" ... hmm it looks like it's time to up my compression from stock 8.8:1 to 9.?:1
