Default conservative timing solve dseries headlift issues?

ive read alot of posts saying conservative timing is the key to stop the head lifting issues. my question is were do you start by doing that? backing off timing on the distributor or engine managament (crome, urberdata etc)? or both? what would be the ideal setting for distributor, 16 degrees, 14?? thanks in advance

z6 stock is 16*
y8 stock is 12*

also there is a new uberdata bin floating around that has revised ign tables for y8's

we just need someone to test this bin with an egt or with a dyno
