Default Compressor surge

Even though my BOV is on a very soft setting, i think i hear just a hint of compresser surge right before my bov clicks open. I have a greddy type s at about 5pounds of boost. If i slowly lift the throttle and let the boost die down there is no surge. Is this just a bad vacum connection?

BOV comes from FPR line

Boost sensor comes from cruise control.

THanks guys, this is my first install, and i really appreciate the help

FPR line is not strong enough for a BOV. 5 psi isn't really going to make much of a noise anyway though, and compressor surge at that little boost isnt going to do much either.

i don't have any of my vacuum lines T'd off into anything so i don't know for sure if it's too week or too strong, try running a vacuum log for the different sources and see if it help.

Also, i've never had a blow off valve that you had to adjust, that's what sold me on the tial, no screws to adjust on it

Can you describe the sound? If it is a "chunk chunk" sound then maybe it is surge, if it is more of a chirping, stuttering sound then it may be that your BOV just isnt opening enough. I get that chirping all the time if I let off teh gas slow or only boost a pound or two. The rpessure differential isnt high enough to get full blow off.

I know its compressur surge. I'm new to working on cars, but not new to them.

I noticed thius driving in a canyon. I get just one or less backwards rotations of the cartrige in the turbine. I get one solid chuck before the bov opens (compresser surge goes chuck chuk chuck chuck-slowing down inbetween each chuck, lol).

Thanks, brake booster next? Soon as i figure out what port it is i'm gonna go to autozone and get some vacum tees.

My BOV is always open unless i'n on the throttle. Any time there is less pressure in my plenium than in the charge pipe, the bov is just wide open. If i downshift i can hear the extra compression just wheeezing out of the valve, and any time that i just coast it often just whistles at me. I'm posotive about everything that i hear.

I get one solid chunk (as we said ) right the instant before my BOV opens, but only when i get off the throttle REALLY fast. If i ease it out of boost, then i dont get it. New vacum line otw. Thanks again for the responses

try tapping it into the break booster line like mentioned above, it doesn't sound like it's getting enough vacuum from the other line to respond fast enough.

I tapped it off the brake booster line, and hooked up a helper nipple on the bottom of my BOV to my charge pipe. The helper nipple help keep posotive pressure on the bottom of the piston in the BOV, so it responds faster when there is a pressure drop on top of it.

The problem still exists. Now it only happens if i am in the process of building boost, and boost is climbing, then if i quickly release the throttle at 4-6psi i get a solid chunck of surge before the BOV clicks open.

Can anyone elaborate on this?

i think there's a post somewhere on here where a guy didn't know what the bottom nipple was for (helper nipple) and when he called greddy they said to leave it open. Maybe try that and see if it helps

No, the bottom nipple helps push the piston up and allows the BOV to open quicker.

Can anyone talk about 6pounds not being enough to damage my turbo? Seems to me that it changing direction is bad for it.

Mine does the same thing, just a slight hint of compressor surge right before the bov opens.

Up, it's been tee'd off of the brake booster for a long time, just the BOV is teed off ofc the brake booster. Nothing else. I still get a hint of compresser surge right before the bov clicks open.

I even hooked up the helper nipple on y greddy tpe s bov. I'm running 5-6lbs of boost. Please help!

easiest soulution to your problem . . . . open your BOV, there are 2 springs one inside of the other. Remove the bigger spring, put back together, and boost happily with no surge. I did this and it got rid of the surge like no other. It just makes it so it takes a little less pressure to open the valve since you are only running 5 psi.

it prolly isnt doing much damage tho. Just try to get it solved. Try larger vacume lines and better sorce.

I'd recommend taking out the smaller one and not the bigger since you don't want a boost leak. I took out the smaller one and running 6lbs on it.
