Default compression test results... seems bad?

the numbers on the right are my results with wide open throttle...

cyl 1 - 150 cyl 1 - 160
cyl 2 - 135 cyl 2 - 140
cyl 3 - 130 cyl 3 - 135
cyl 4 - 140 cyl 4 - 145

motor was rebuilt 1100 km's ago... je 9:1 pistons .... my turbo setup is basically all in except for my intercooler piping ... are these bad compression results?

btw its a 97 gsr

seems quite low, how did you perform the compression test?

compression tests should be done with the engine warm and throttle wide open, how was this one done? btw, if it was done properly, cyl #3 is fucked, and 2,4 dont look too good either.

those are quite low for built engine of that nature. If done properly you should be inthe 170-180 region

i cant remember but i think u cant have no more than 10% variation from ur high compression #

on this case the compresssion numbers have to be withing 16psi from ea other

and the one u have there has a variation of 15%

i say its no goody

do a leakdown test, and find out where the problem lies...

also add about 2 tbspoon of oil into ea cylinder and see if they change.... maybe u got worn rings

With my stock compression (9.1:1) I have 150psi across all 4. This is on a D-series if it makes any difference. Some compression testers read a lil different, but you want the numbers to be similar.

Go out and do some burnouts and flog the **** out of the motor. Hopefully its not too late to get the rings to bite (sounds like it is though). Probably going to have to tear it apart. Double check the piston/wall clearance. Rehone and add new rings. If not, you'll probably end up with an oil eating smoker on your hands.

Oh yeah, no burnouts on a bad tune

i did the test by waiting about an hour til its cool, screw compression tester in and crank it with full throttle .... so what may possibly be wrong? piston rings? btw, it wasnt smoking when i had my original exhaust on and when i didnt put the turbo **** on a few days ago... could it be cause my vacuum lines are not hooked up yet? basically what its doing is building boost but just throwing it out into the atmosphere...getting the intercooler piping done tomorrow

So your saying that you have the turbo on the car, with no vacuum line on the wastegate and the charge pipe is venting to the atomshpere?

I hope thats not that case. If so, your going to over spin your turbo if you already have not.

i can't figure out why you would get the setup half way installed and go drive around for 3 days.

but yeah more than likely engine and turbo are both toast.

Costly lesson learned.

The turbo wouldnt affect engine life, however connecting the turbine with no intercooler piping would blow ur turbine. Most likely your turbine is bad now, it allows the turbine to overrev basically.
