Oh man, this isn't good. All this bad news about Cometic gaskets. I ordered TWO of them last week. One for my Integra R, another for my turbo Civic. The Integra definitely has a blown head gasket right now, because it burns coolant, and the overflow bottle fills up and doesn't go back down, and I feel the radiator hoses pressurize a lot (but it doesn't really get hot). Anyway, the gaskets should be here tomorrow or Tuesday. How can I tell which side is up? This is for a B18C5 motor. It's a stock thickness one. What do I torque it to? (with ARP head studs)

the easiest way to tell if it is up is too make sure the tab on the side which has a part# on a honda one is pointing towards the front tranny side, then it can go on one way, compare it to the blown headgasket it is marked up. Torque the arps to 80 foot pounds with oil 73 foot pounds with molly lube. Make sure the studs are all the way bottomed out, try using cooper spray on the gasket also, Jason

Settle down guys... they're great head gaskets and there are a lot more people out there with good experiences than bad. **** happens. People make little mistakes, or end up with a single defective part (less likely but possible).

My b18c5 cometic gasket came with the word up printed on it so once thats established its really hard to put it the wrong way without looking at it and saying WTF....when you lay it on there right side up you will see where the apporiate water jackets are.....i think UP on mine was toward the back of the car but dont go by me because who knows if they put it in the same spot everytime

VTEC gaskets are easy to tell, they can only go on one way due to the vtec oil port.

I myself have had no problems with cometic's gaskets. Been using em for quite
awhile now with much success. I will say that where the bore is close to stock
i will ONLY use a stock gasket and only use cometic where its needed.
