Default Which clutch setup would you choose?

Looking over some information I am wondering which clutch kit you guys would go with. Right now im looking at a Clutchmasters Stage 3 or 4 setup as the front runner but also the most expensive.

Now looking at some ACT stuff There AI4-HDR6 has a torque capacity of 311 and it includes there 6 pad Race disc and there heavy duty pressure plate. What would be the difference between that kit and the ACT AI4-XTSS which includes the Xtreme pressure plate and there street disc which has a torque capacity of 319. Would the street disc be more bearable for street use or what?

My power goals arent super high at max 350whp if i somehow manage to get there on my stock LS-T that will be finished next year.

Would the AI4-HDSS with a torque capacity of 243 be good enough eventhough my goals are 240 wheel tq daily?

I have installed several of the XTSS and HDR6 clutches. The pedal pressure on the XT plate is pretty hard if you get stuck in traffic or something but the SS disc will slip smoothly. The unsprung R6 disc can also be harsh in traffic but with the HD pressure plate it won't kill your leg. Like all modifications there are compromises involved.

I chose the HDR6 for my car. It can be a little difficult to feather and chatters if you don't rev match down shifts. The pedal pressure perfect. I love the instant, positive engagement of the 6 puck especially.

yeah im kidna caught in between right now because the XTSS will be smooth with less chatter etc but also the pedal pressure will be alot harder and its a bit more expensive.

Whereas the HDR6 will chatter a bit most likely and be a little rougher but it will cost less and wont need as much effort to engage the clutch.

How much rougher would the R6 be compared to the street disc? Is it just matter of learning how to control the clutch a bit better or will it always be harsh?

yes, I can drive mine pretty damn smooth but every now and then it catches me off guard. It's like an on/off switch

I am a d-series guy, but I have the ACT xtss and I love it. Mine is rated for 270 ft/lbs and I usually run about 10psi (215whp/180wtq) and it holds awsome. I can always upgrade to a 4 or 6 puck disc later on if I need to. I was looking at the prices of the disc to upgrade and it was only about $100.

hmmm, i guess im gonna have to make a decision on whether i dont mind a leg workout with smooth engagement or less leg work but more finese.

Is the 6 unsprung or sprung?

do you think the xtss has a real hard pedal? I know the xtss for the b series is rated for 319tq which is way more than enough for what i have planned but gives me room for improvement. IT is about $100+ more than the HDR6 which is rated for 311tq so its more of a price vs driveability thing now.

those springs don't affect engagement too much. they are to damp the non-linear output of your motor. Most clutch failures are from these same springs falling out and jamming up the PP. no springs means they can't break.

i thought having an unsprung clutch was like having a switch basically, either the clutch is engaged or not....no in between?

it is, but it is entirly posible to drive it smoothly. I do 95% of the time. A little tire chip here and there never hurt anyone
