Clutch problems!!!! what to do????
I'm in the process of building my FI project. The problem is that i got a clutch that i think will be too weak. I bought the clutch from a local shop, and told them i want the act stage 2 ****. I now know that they dont go by that. They got me the street disc and heavy duty pp. Now, i'm shooting for around 350 whp, and im assuming this will not hold up. I was kind of expecting to get the six puck clutch and the extreme pressure plate. If i was to try and get this setup, what is the drivability on it. It will be daily driven. HELP!!!!!
great clutch but its going to suck in traffic. hard peddle pressure but you will get used to it. another good clutch is the clutch masters stage 4 its sprung hub so it will be easyer on your drivetrain.
Word to that! I have Clutch Masters stage 4 and I love it. A lot of ppl told me that it was gonna be too much for the street and all that BS but trust me, its great!
If I were you, I would get that one......... Wait, I am me..........
PS: I have an LS/Vtec turbo'd and I'm in the same HP areas as you and my clutch is holding pretty danm good :D

ok. new update. I went to the shop to exchange the clutch, but they said the hdss would easily hold what i had. They said that the next step up would be unstreetable. Should i get just a six puck and hd pressure plate? Should i get the extreme plate with the street disc? ANY SUGGESTIONS?

yeah, definetly let me know. Your setup is what i am aiming for so it would be perfect!!! thanks!

the XT with 6puck is fine i drove it for the longest time without any issues . you just get used to it after a while its way stronger than stock thats for sure. If you want a more streetable but can hold the pwoer its clutchmasters stg 4 model
I am kind of stuck with the act stuff since i alerady pruchased some of the kit. so, should i just go with the xt and 6 puck, or leave one of them out of the picture????
I would recommend the XTSS setup for high powered street use. The HDR6 would hold about the same torque, have less pedal effort, but is really meant for racing, not street use. It would engage fairly harsh. Some get used to it, but it is not what I would recommend.
The disc determines the engagement, not the pressure plate. The more friction the disc material has, the more torque it will hold, and the harsher it will engage. The combination of clamp load from the pressure plate and friction of the material is what determines the torque capacity. Don't believe the people saying that spring center is what makes a clutch streetable. The springs have nothing to do with improving engagement quality, but are there to dampen vibrations which produce noise in the transmission. On a race disc most the springs make chatter worse, not better.

Personally I would stick with ACT since I've had problems with Clutch Masters, Clutch Net, etc. in the past... I don't want to start up another debate but I can tell you one of our turbo cars (Lane's B18C/EJ6 only makes 375whp on 12lbs. and 92) has been running for over 2 years now on the same ACT HD/6-puck and has just now began to slip... It's up to what the shop will do for you but I'm sure it would work fine... If you don't wanna deal with problems later then try to upgrade to a XT pressure plate by whatever means possible... We've slipped the ACT Maxx Xtreme plate with a 6-puck disk on Kenny's motor a long time ago which made like 506whp, but I have no doubts that it wouldn't do just fine for you too... Now for all the built higher boost motors we just stick with the Tiltons... ACT gets my vote tho
Good Luck

the act 6puck needs getting used to. Pedal is really hard. My friend used to have one on his car, man that thing was hard as **** to drive to me. Its like taking out power steering on a car that has it and driving it...u just gotta get used to it.
The CM stage 4 worked great for me. It was spring loaded and pedal pressure was pretty easy.

So is the six puck kind of out of the picture for daily driving??? Or when you get used to it its fine? Does a six puck require a aftermarket flywheel? What kind of power can teh extreme plate and ss disc handle?
