cleaning a sleeved block....how?
I just got my new Golden Eagle block yesterday and im in the process of cleanig it. All the years of having an open wastegate has taken its toll on it and the entire front was totally black. I started by just dipping a peice of scotchbrite in some engine degreaser and it works well. It took be about 4 hours but the entire block looks brand new. Now here the hard part. Im sure during the machining that there are metal flakes and stuff inside the engine in the coolant passage and stuff. I know im not supposed to hot tank the engine so how do i thoroughly clean it. At my dads work they have a cleaning machine that you sit the part in and it spins while streaming cleaning solution onto it. It is also heated so im not sure if that will damamge the block or not. Can I just water (I frequently use the bathtub as a parts washer) or will that hurt the sleeves by rusting them. I need it cleaned but im not sure the best way. Any suggestions.

Im not sure if they kik or not. I just figured that now that the engine is apart it will be so much easier to clean. It almost looks polished from all the scrubing with the scotchbrite. I dont know why your not supposed to hot tank it Golden Eagle said so. They wont warranty it if you do.

i believe hot tanking it will eat away at the sealant they use for the sleeves.

I use this stuff called CD2 engine degresser and detailer. Works really good on taking stuff of and makes it look nice.

The chemicals in a REAL hot tank will eat aluminum. Most machine shops have a cleaner that kind of works like a dishwasher with chemicals that don't hurt aluminum. You can clean your block with Tide or some other soap like it. Scrub it then rinse and rinse again with the strongest blast of water that you can come up with. Blow dry the block and spray the sleaves with WD 40 immediately to stop any rusting. The most important part to clean is the oil passages. Any foreign particles there can wind up in your bearings, crank, oil pump, etc. When you are dry and happy, be sure to seal the block in a plastic trash bag until you reach the clean room
