ive always used a steamer and detergent. i assume this isnt the bare block and trans housing? otherwise you could have it hot tanked.
i've not tried the eagle one product you mentioned. however, the word "etching" gives me the impression there is alot of acid in it. if you do go that route make sure the block/tranny are not hot and the car has not been running. also make sure those parts are wet before spraying that cleaner on it to avoid any spots where the acid will turn the metal a white/hazy color.
best of luck

Whenever I get a new (to me) Honda, I will use parts store degreaser to get all the gunk off of the engine. Follow directions on degreaser can. Most degreasers want the engine warm so the oil/grease is softened. Turn engine off, spray degreaser on and let soak a bit. Then, take a pressure washer and blast the block, trans, etc. After that, the engine will be quite a bit cooler. I spray on some acid and wait about 30 seconds then pressure wash off. Make sure you totally rinse all trace acid off. Block and trans will appear pretty much new after that.

all depends on the level of acid in the cleaner. a degreaser and etching solution are two different beasts. just take your time and follow directions.

I always use the stuff in a purple bottle called super clean degreaser adn a pressure washer when the engine is cold. it removes iverything but paint and comes out like new. You may have to do it more than once but one bottle is plenty. The bottle says that you shouldn't let it set on aluminum parts very long because it will make look corroded. As long as you coat it heavily and let it set for less than a minute it comes out "Super Clean".
