civic si questions
Ok so im new to the import scene, and need some help with a couple questions. I have been into 4x4's and offroading a lot, but with gas the way it is I NEED a car. I really love the look of the 1999-2000 civic SI's but I have a couple questions first.
Would parts from a 1996-2000 civic bolt up?? Like fenders and so on (not motor part)
I noticed they also have B16 motors, and thats mainly why I really want the SI model, because I dont want to do a swap out a D motor, I just dont have the time or experience. But now to the motor questions
I plan on turbocharging the car, yes I know the kits cost around $4000 and im willing to send that. But I also have heard that the motors cant handle that much power. It will be my DD so it cant break. I understand it will need a good tune so it wont blow. But how much power can the stock block take untill it needs to be sleeved?? I know the crank will be fine, heard those were strong. I also heard the rods were weak. Would it be posible in a weekend to just pull the head and oil pan and change out the pistons and rods with the motor still in the car?? I heard the rev hard turbo kit is really good, and thats what im looking to buy. Would that be fine for around 8-9 psi?? Around how much WHP would that make with a stock motor and good tune??
Oh and since im use to driving big 4x4's riding in a car so low sort of freaks me out lol . Would a roll cage help with a crash as far as getting hit in the T boned?
I have helped my dad build his Nova and his Camaro so im not new around motors or drag racing, but im def new around imports. Sorry for the dumb questions and yes I have been searching a lot, for a couple days, but there are a lot of different answers.

Re: civic si questions (Brandon H.)
Nobody?? All im looking for is 250whp tops. Really all im worried about is putting a turbo on a car that already has 100,000 miles on it. With enough boost to get me around 230-250whp, would it still be a reliable DD. Like would I be able to put another 100,000 miles on it if the motor was well maintained and passed a leak down test fine at the 100,000 mile mark?? I know people run more then that, but I have read the motor might give anytime like a month, or a year or so on. I need something reliable.

Re: civic si questions (Brandon H.)
if you are going to replace the pistons and rods and only looking for 250whp
some H-T members might not like this but... stick with a SOHC
throw in a cheep virta build and a good tune and your set to go
as long as you take care of you ride and do regular maintenance there is no reason it wouldn't be reliable.
I'm stinking it out SOHC with the only motor mods going to be a new head gasket and arp head studs
and I'm looking to be around 230whp and 200trq.
that's basically a stock SOHC
now for reliability DD a mild build would work out great and even give you a little room to grow
a nice ebc and you can even have some fun around town

Re: civic si questions (Brandon H.)
Some parts are interchangeable, but things like the headlights are different on 99-00 models, whether you have an Si or a DX. If you're only looking for 230-250whp, you don't need a B series. Since you like the look of the Si, why don't you buy a 99-00 EX, then buy the matching body color parts, like the front lip? I saw a silver EX that I thought was a Canadian SiR. It looks identical. You'll have a much better chance at getting a car that hasn't been beat to hell by some kid.
Edit...I walked away from the computer before I finished typing this. We're both thinking the same thing, lol.

Man U FTW
If you have the option, get the Si. The B16 is a lot stronger stock for stock than a D series. Both can handle a decent amount of power without any internal modification. Most D series are safe up to 220-240whp; whereas, the B16 (and most other B series) is good to a little over 300whp. If you want more power than either of those figures, you're going to need to investigate your options as far as either rebuilding or settling for less
