choosing a clutch
I've searched and searched, but really want some more opinions before I jump in and spend my cash.
I want a clutch that can take around 400whp/300lb/ft (estimate) so does that automatically mean the clutch will have a very stiff pedal and harsh engagement? I'm only a girl...
Actually the engagement I don't mind so much cos you get used to it, even though I sit in heavy traffic sometimes which is a pain. But the thought of a really stiff pedal does my head in. Just how bad is it?
Is there a clutch out there that I can live with, or should I just toughen up and accept its what comes with driving a monster Teg?

oOOOOooo. SHes gone from wanting 300whp to 400whp now... Do I smell greed already?
Easy pedal and hold a ton of power.... Yes of course its possible, just how large is your purse?

Hehe, i have to watch out for you sneaking up on me too then
Anyway y'know, just thinking about future expansion an all that, its only an estimate
My purse is empty but my overdraft is large...

buck up and take one for the team. he hee. j.k.
clutch masters have little pedal effort, but i am disappoointed in the life of my stage 4. i am looking at an rps. it is pricey but it is holdingin our TT350 Z. act is good but the pedal effort is high.

I had the same question about two weeks ago....I went with the Exedy twin disc. It is not in the car yet, they are putting the motor/tranny in as I type this. I should have it back in my hands sometime next week. If you want I can let you know how the engagement is (I was told it wasn't harsh, so I'm crossing my fingers).
I found my thread for you...hope this helps a little: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1268900

compettion 5 pressure plates feel better than act pressure plates...but I like act clutches better. I originally at a act pp and act full face disc. It would be a work out for my foot pushing in the clutch. Now I have a competition stage 5 pressure plate with a 6 puck unsprung disc from act. The car pedal is not as harsh but engagement is definately more ruff for a daily driver.....i drive it about 16 miles to work and 16 miles home everyday on 22 psi.
You get use to the clutch and you just have fun with it.

How long did your cm stage 4 last? Which RPS are you looking at, and how pricy is pricy?!

Yeah I'd be interested to hear how you get on when you get the exedy in. I read the twin disc is good for over 500whp, is it overkill on anything less than that?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, buy the least clutch that you need, don't over-clutch the car, you'll be miserable.
I recommend CM stage 3 (the same clutch I have), it is civilized on the street, but will handle the power.
A stage 4 is just not going to last on the street.

Well I don't wanna be miserable after waiting all this time to get my car back! But why won't a CM stage 4 last on the street? whats a stage 3 rated to?

well i have a ACT heavy duty pressure plate with a ACT 4-puck unsprung clutch.... its great... although it may suck when you are in miami stop and go traffic for an hour... but its def. a great combo. !!!
some good clutch info here:
http://www.clutchmasters.com/shop/?page=shop/about
It's obviously biased toward the CM, but the main thing you want to take away from that article is that the clutch is designed to be the weakest link in the drivetrain, so keep it that way.
The reason that a CM 3 last longer than a CM 4 which lasts longer than a CM 5 on the street is that the friction materials are different, and the heavier the clutch, the less slippage it will withstand over time (such as is required for typical daily street driving)

my stage 4 lasted 9000 miles at low boost. when i finally put the spurs to her she let go. i have an RPS 6 puck sprung with a 2200lb pressure plate because i have a t3-t67 and will be pushing 25 psi with it. i dont know what retail is, but i think i paid 950 for the clutch and a cyn-r-g flywheel.

Good info. there
I would definitely agree with that site...when I was reading through the exedy catalog at the shop I read about something along those lines regarding the improved clutch pedal feel and such.

I'll let you know, it will probably won't be until middle of next week...but if you can wait then I'll give you a full report
Also, the exedy catalog states that the twin disc is good for up to 750whp....while the triple disc is good up to 1200whp, and OK for 750whp applications haha.
I'll be able to test the sub 500whp levels because my turbo will probably start to lose efficiency at 450whp. Buuut I am shooting for 500...and down the road 6 months, I want 550-650.

angela_itr I don't know what other people feel about this, but a heavy clutch is no big deal to me. The first time you push it in, you think, "wow, how am I gonna DD this car?
" But, within a week of driving it around it felt like stock, seriously! I hoped into a buddies stock accord and hit the clutch.....my foot almost went through the floorboard I pushed so hard. I feel a heavier clutch is ideal for limited slippage and quicker shifting, and since IMO the heavy feel goes away , I would lean towards a heavy pedal pressure.
BTW I have an Action 2MS (sprung)...I love it

^^^Bingo! I had that exact same feeling the first time I got in the car with an exedy stage 2 (thick plate). The pressure is all in your head...you'll get used to it.
