Eprommer 3.x
Others work fine, too, you just need to support 27Cxxx and 29Cxxx in a 28 DIP package.

try the chip burner from http://www.moates.net for $85. It is small, only needs one cable, USB, and does what it needs to do. I got mine a few days ago and it works great. I have never owned any other chip burner so i can't offer you a compairison. But if you want a batronix, I've read alot of good comments on Uberdata's forum on the version 4.0 programmer
Hope this helps

Yeah, GM Sean was talking about that, I ntotally forgot. Normally I'd tell you to ask around about the quality of the burner, but Craig Moates doesn't sell junk.

Try the Moates.
The Batronix 3.3 is pretty good, that's what I am using. However, it's a bit of a pain because sometimes you need to try a few times to get the chips to come out right. I don't know if the Moates burner has the same issue, but I doubt it because I have not heard anything of the sort.

Re: (kpt4321)
I hear a lot of complaints recently about the Batronix unit, but I never experienced it with my trusty 3.2. I also only run Prog-Studio 5.17 - everything newer requires a homogay online registration dance that takes 24-72 hours to finalize and with how I change OS like underwear I'd be incapable of every burning a chip again.

I reccomend the moates to all newbies now too, it burns the chips you need (basically 29c256) .. and is one wire/no hassle of jumping **** or anything. If you're a hobbiest like me who dicks with DVD player firmware, arcade games etc, its not a good choice.

Ditto here, only thing that sucks is that you cant burn ROMs straight from Hondata Rom Editor

Re: (DC2R714)
Having been removed from the loop of having to look for a chip burner and caring enough to adequately feel out the market, I felt I had to turn to someone in the market for their first burner yet conversely smart enough to make a good choice in burners (hehe).
Courtesy of Mark P, F-body guru and asshat extraordinaire:
"I looked around, and found a few in a reasonable price range (including
a ppII knockoff for $79), and narrowed it down to the ppII knockoff, the
flash and burn (motes USB setup for $85) and the 2 willem programmers.
I dumped the flash and burn from the list first, didn't like the fact
that it couldn't burn anything besides 29Cxxx eeproms, where I could see
using this for PC and other stuff besides ecm stuff, also wouldn't do a
2732a (my tbi truck). That left me with the PPII or the Willems. I
searched the archives and found that a lot of people where having
problems with both, but I somewhat got the impression that it was more
user error then actual problems. One thing that made me really worry
about the PPII was that a lot of people were turning up with problems
with the 2732a. Anyway, long story, but I ended up playing with the
software from both and liked the willem stuff much better, also liked
the fact that there were multiple message boards and lists dealing with
them. Ruled out the willem enhanced since because it couldn't burn some
of the higher voltage chips consistently (draws power from the USB
port), but the normal willem versions had some strange power
requirements (either 20VDC or 12VAC). Finally stumbled on a newer
version of the standard willem that works on 12vdc or vac for $38...
problem solved, should have it by the end of the week."
Well, there you go. Mark gives a good commentary and summary of the burners... if you disregard his final selection I can see why you might like the Moates unit - it would work off of USB power from a laptop when doing on-the-go tuning without a hassle of wires. Otherwise, I think the Willem 12VDC variant wins for both cost and features.

Mark read this, wanted to add:
">The only thing that I was not clear about was that the motes flash and
>burn will _read_ most of the common dip package proms, but will not
>write anything but the AT29Cxxx proms. (based on my discussion with
>Craig (motes) and Mark (magnus/tunerpro, some of craig's software)."

Re: (warwagon)
never mind i'll just wait for the moates flash and burn since they'll be back in stock the 3rd, i hadnt seen that before. I also like the style of the Epromer5 but man for 115 its too pricey and it has to be externally powered too

Re: (keebler65)
Changed my mind guys, im getting the Pocket ROM emulator which can be seen and read up at http://www.xtronics.com/memory/pktROM.htm
It plugs right into where the chip goes and you can change the maps on the fly. I may buy a chip burner later on but since this will be used solely for my car im getting that, its the same one that Hondata uses, but Hondata sucks and over price almost everything.

i dont know what the hell romulating is i just want to know if it really plugs into my zif socket in the ecu and all you have to do is plug the laptop into the pocket romulator and write away without pulling the chip out of the ecu every damn time?
