Default checking used block internals? pic

There is a local "turbo block" for sale the seller is unsure of its specs and id like to go over there and eye it out. I know its a 1.6 block, basically I want to know how easily i can ID the pistons and rods and check if its good?

my plan so far is to bring a venier to measure the bore, and something so i can spin the rotating assembly with some oil of coarse. then if the seller will allow it take the pan off and check the internals.

how much is not low balling for a built block? its a bit sketch lol

The pistons are cast, i can tell you that right now just by looking at the tops, typically the oem pistons will have the code stamped onto the top of the piston. It's hard to say that this block is sleeved or not, typically sleeved blocks will have some sort of guard depending on which sleeves are used in the water jacket itself. Although replacement sleeves like ones I have seen from RSmachines and LAsleeves can be open deck with no reinforcement.

Typically on OEM sleeves there is a clear distinction between the cast iron liner and the aluminum outer sleeve.

not sure you will be able to determine what brand connecting rods are on it, but if you dont see anything thicker that your typical OEM rod, then it probably isnt an aftermarket rod. The cheapest connecting rods out there are very thick H beams.

Take a look at the rod bolts holding the rod onto the crank, they will typically be 12 point if they have been upgraded.

i will say that the rest of that block looks horrific, like its been sitting in salt water for years, even the coolant pipe and every other part on it looks pretty bad.

Haha, I wouldn't buy it. It has "there is something wrong with me that I'm trying to hide" wrote all over it.

If something's to cheap to be true; then it most likely is...

i was thinking theyre a cast piston as well thats not so great...I guess theres no way at all to get the compression ratio? good point on the rod bolts ill be for sure getting in there and taking pics. the seller has full itr swap y7 swap, gsr intake and tb....lots of stuff sitting for some reason. the pic it doesnt look sleeved.

my other concern is the block was pulled cause of a bearing problem which could go un noticed to a buyer.

Don't buy it man. You will just be buying someone else's problem. Build you're own block... and do it properly.
