check engine light when boosting
I have a 94 Accord ex with the fmax kit, and for some reason within the last month when i get on the car a little and i get to about 6psi the check light goes on and the car starts running funny. it feels like it goes into a limp mode. but if i pull off to the side of the road shut the car off and turn it right back on the light goes off and the car runs normal again. but if i dont boost the car or keep it low there is no problem.does anyone know what this might be caused by? i have had this kit for about 2 years and never had this problem before. thanks for your time.

Not exactly sure what causes it, but my brothers turbo civic did the same thing. He now runs an unlimited map sensor and it doesnt do it anymore.

Re: (troublecodes)
If you guys are running a stock ECU with what it sounds like is an FMU with the car. You guys need to install a missing link in the car so the computer never sees boost. If it does it goes into limp mode an the car will not run properly.

Re: (troublecodes)
If you are only experiencing it when you hit boost, chances are that your map sensor is seeing boost. Check to see (if you are using one) if your missing link or check valve setup is working correctly.

Re: check engine light when boosting (SOHC_MShue)
OK, I checked the CEL and the code was for the map sensor. So I replaced the map that came with the fmax kit and I added a missing link to the stock map. Then I cleared the code and check it and and the code was gone, but it was making the car run VERY rich. It blew gas all over the hood of my supra. So I plugged up the hole of the missing link and now the engine sounds like its running a lot better. but if i get on the car i hear a loud pop almost like a backfire and the car goes back into limp mode. so i dunno what to do. Please help!

how about put a stock map in, throw the fmu in the trash, and get real engine management, so you ecu actually knows what to do when it sees boost...

I'm not running a FMU should I? I was thinking about sending my ecu out to be worked on, do you think that would be my best bet? thanks everyone for your help so far

If your not running an fmu then what are you even using for fuel managment! Do not boost on your car anymore until you at least get something.

Get ready for a blown motor go have your pistons checked and motor checked before it gets worse and have no car! Is getting ready to go soon soon soon you will see smoke coming out of everywhere, oil leaks and guess what you will need new pistons, rings, etc! You already try a missing link, and all there is to it when it comes to the chek engine. Is time to go to a profesional trust me IT HAPPENED TO ME DAMB IT other ways I woulnd't be talking ****!!! Get your motor check take the head out look at the pistons let me know what happends!!
