Default Changing the jrsc alternator pulley

Instead of removing the alternator to change to a stepper pulley, I'm trying to lower the engine enough to get an impact wrench on the pulley bolt from the wheel well. However, I can't seem to lower the driver's side of the engine low enough. I'm not even close. I removed both sides' torque mounts, removed the driver' side mount thru-bolt, and started to loosen the passenger side mounting bolts. The engine dropped a little bit, but not nearly enough, and it won't drop any further. I don't see where the engine could be "catching" on something. What am I doing wrong? Is removing the alternator a better alternative to get at the pulley bolt?
