ever hear the saying if you polish a turd its still a turd.

i'm all about the function over form thing but this thing really looks like ****, let me guess your in quite a hurry to get a turbo on your car? well at least you could have taken the bb's off of it geez. take some time and TLC into the stuff you do.

honestly dude buy a grinder and clean it up ALOT it might not be so bad if it had some attention to detail

Would you like a tissue, or is a tampon necessary in this case?

This is a budget build, and that's how I'm treating/approaching it. I'm a broke grad student, I live in an apartment, I don't have access to a shop, air tools, lift, die grinder, any of that crap - I don't even have a garage to work in. Why do you think the manifold's in my kitchen, and there's a Y8 block ready for teardown in my storage room?

I've only got, let me think... ~ $1,600 into my new setup, give or take? Who the f-u-c-k-i-n-g hell cares what my manifold LOOKS like?

I ran a Greddy kit for 3 years, and with my new setup I'm aiming for 330whp on pump gas. Get over it, you'll live.

a hammer and a screw driver will knock off those bb's, and i've been broke before too you know what I did? I used my time to do detail work, budget work doesn't have to look crappy.

Sorry that's not really accurate at all. Most (maybe all?) of the coatings that are 'chrome' are either hand buffed with steel wool and compounds or put in a vibratory polisher with ceramic ***** and polishing compound. The polishing process is what seals up the surface of the coating, making it more durable and resistant to chemicals. Like any thin coating, the surface prep = the final finish quality.

It's probably the same exact coating on your manifold as the ugly one.

Whatever floats your boat. If the owner is happy with it then who cares? I know exactly what it is like to be a poor *** college student. I can't imagine having the money to turbo my car while being in college. It's not a f-r mani, but who cares? Not everyone can afford those. Someday I'll have one tho, I swear!! Even if I have to finance it. Shoot I want one of their ims as well.

OT: GL man, hope you get to your goal.

sorry i just think its retarded to not try to make something look nice. Why Ceramic coat it and polish it if he's not worried about how it looks? for the right price sure i'll so his detail work . this is the begining to my detail work, everythin that can be powder coated will be powder coated before it goes back onto my car. I decided that I didn't want to wait until someone else does it so I figured i set myself up do do it when i needed it done. This week i'll be buying a sandblast cabinet to make suret hings are perfect.

the small oven on top is about the right size to do dohc valve covers and the bottom is large enough to do 17 inch wheels. i plan on doing averything that can wigh stand the heat. my 10 sec. honda is going to have form and function.

Eastwood co. sells an affordable home powder coat system i'm picking up. I have a few other things i need to buy in order to be set up. I just look at it this way, while assembling everything i dont want to stop and drop stuff off and wait then forget to drop something off and wait some more. it only takes about an hour to powder coat stuff and be ready to put it back on the car. I'm also buying a stone polisher to polish all my nuts and bolts before they go back on too. its a bit difficult getting everything up and running in the middle of an engine build. $$$$$ and lots of it.

and to the thread starter i'm not trying to hate.

Hey it's no problem, I hear where you're coming from.

It's just that, this is Operation: I Got It 4 Cheap, so expensive manifolds, coating, etc. are out of the question.

yeah i did some thinking today. I remembered my first turbo kit LOL what a mess! I just strongly believe in taking my time and doing things the right way nowadays. I guess i'm just trying to tell you to take your time make sure you have all the pieces of the puzzle. Dont go through the headaches and wasted money I did, i'm just trying to steer you clear.

Ask Boon (Kabaroo) about who did the welding, I believe it was speed-factor.com. As far as the coating, Boost Factory did it, and they did a good job IMO. The reason it looks shitty is mainly because of the white powder that's still on it. I'm going to finish cleaning it up tonight like I said

For my next setup I'm going with a TIG welded manifold </TD></TR></TABLE>

If it's the speed factor from northern virginia I would throw that trash out the window right now. those idiots were installing extended wheel studs on some guys car and in the process of extracting a couple they snapped them off inside. Rather than going the right route of drilling them out, they decided to cut the extended studs and weld them on. needless to say, they lasted 5 miles.

Thanks for everyones concerns but there will be no trouble with his set-up! The manifold works. He's got a decent tuner and quality components. I have no doubts about this set-up and its capabilities.

If you have your doubts come find out June 10th!
