Default catalytic convertor question

i just talked to greg at autoworks, and he said most of the downpipes he makes need to be welded to the exhaust piping. He said a cat robs horsepower, especially the stock honda cat.

I need a cat for emissions purposes and wouldnt be able to get my car inspected without it. is there anything i can do to lose minimal power, but still pass my inspection?

Make a quick disconnect on your exhaust system. Where you could take a pipe out and then swap in a cat with a little bit of pipe.

Then use two stainless steel clamps. One on each end.

That way when its time for your inspection just swap the cat in. Then when you go home put your pipe back in.

Easy as that.

you can go out and spend some $ and get a highflow cat, but your better off making the quick disconnect.

that quick disconnect pipe is a good idea. How would i have it flanged like that. My downpipe is going to be a straight pipe, and the exhaust will also be a straight pipe. Is there anyway i can buy flanges that are similar to my cat flanges? Will the muffler shop have them?

for legality reasons most muffler shops dont want to be involve in alterations of catalytic converters.(unless ur car doesnt have one and they're adding one)

If you cet a couple of vbands it will be a really quick disconnect. supposedly metal core high flow cats dont harm flow but I also heard they dont really work well at eliminating nox gases. (or whatever theyre called)

yeah I know but if you look a little closer you'll see some sort of filling.

Not a bad Idea really cause I think it makes it into a little muffler and stealthy is always good.
