can you turbo a 10.5:1 compression engine and run pump gas?
Just wondering if I can do this. Just want more power!
It's a 2.7 liter 911 motor built to race spec. 240 hp NA but it would be killer if it had 350 or more. Already has a haltech capable of running boost control.
Just thinking of a winter project right now

So people on here will tell you not to do it. My motor is a 10:0:1 compression LS/VTEC and my GT 35 loves the hell out of the high compression. I usually run around the street on 12 Psi with 91 octane stalking V-8s and street bikes so I love the high compression.

I'd be happy with about 8 lbs and I sure as heck wouldn't put 91 in it.
I normaly put lucas octane boost in before a road race or autox. But I guess I could run that all the time. I don't drive it that much.

Re: (Turbo Toyz)
make sure your tune is spot on, and maybe go for a 3 psi wastegate at first.
you go lean just a little with 10:1, kiss your big money porsche motor goodbye.

Usually I'd only recommend running high compression for Honda heads only because all other heads are pretty much crap in resisting detonation
But I've done a similar thing... My Camry 3.0L V6 engine is at 10.5:1 CR and it is pushing over 420+ WHP. The thing is, the transmission is automatic so calculating driveline losses, the engine is pushing close to 600 BHP. This was done on pump gas 94 oct with water injection, but I wouldn't think you'd need water injection because it is only 350 WHP or so. My baseline pull netted me 370 WHP without the use of water injection.

I'm running 10.6:1 with 12 lbs on 91 octane. Just make sure your tune is good. 50/50 water/methanol injection helps out a lot also.

Re: (Fitti (Godzilla))
Depends on cam profile and duration, a bigger cam you can run more static compression, but it will lower the dynamic compression which helps against detonation.
find out the lift of the cam at .500 and then go from there. Usually you can get away with it on both sides of the spectrum but the tune is where everything will come together.

Well I just called the engine builder. He is out of town racing or some ****. It's a porsche motor so I don't know **** about them. And looking over the receipes for the motor, man I do not want to break it.
Any idea what would be a good setup for a 2.7 flat 6 motor pushing out around 190lbs torque and 240hp NA? I prefer a single turbo so I am thinking I can place it where the muffler is and have the headers run into the turbo instead. 350hp would be more then enough I would think. car weighs only 1900lbs.

I have a 3.2L v6 in my acura with 10.5:1 running a garret gt35r pushing 10psi with 464 whp. I also use a water injection to aleviate detonation. So far so good. It can be done but do it carefully and it's possibe you'de be a candidate for water injection, just depends on how much you want to push it.
I'd suspect every motor is different though in regards to using pump gas with high compression boosted motors. I can boost 6-6.5 on pump with water injection with no det, anything over that I have to use higher octane or run quite a bit richer to "water down" the det. Touline is a great octane booster and can be bought in hardware stores for 7-8 bucks a gallon . When i use the stuff, I add 2 gallons with 13 gallons of premium. Sometimes I use AVGAS and can boost 8lbs without water and 10lbs with water. The combinations are endless but i found what works best for my car. I usually just play it safe and use 118 since I'm always ready to play.

more compression= more power & more chance for boom. But isn't that the name of the game. I have a boostoed d15b. think it's a little over 10:1? itr's make awesome numbers on low boost also.

Re: can you turbo a 10.5:1 compression engine and run pump gas? (undercoverdc2)
Few questions
First the biggest one is the turbo GT35R sounds like a really good turbo for what I want. I see that it requires both oil and coolant. So any way to get coolant to a turbo in a car with no coolant?
I was poking around on ebay and it seems the subaru STI intercooler would be a nice setup since it has the BOV already on the intercooler. Nice and compact.
Looks like I can get the whole project done for about $3000-4000.
But I need to do some prep work on the body which might run about $2000.
Before I start peicing things together though I need to get ahold of the engine builder to make sure I can do this. I want to kill ferraris and lambos!

i would run methanol/water injection to be on the safe side! the half decent kits are about 300 or so.
cause it is a 911.
