Can the MSD ignition system function w/o MSD 6A working right?
As the topic states...
I had problems with my last dyno session:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1385481
I am thinking it would be the ignition system so I finally had time. I took the white wire as the MSD troubleshooting states and did everything. It doesn't create spark anywhere like it should when grounding it and lifting it. The system works great until I hit the upper RPM's. The MSD 6A is getting +11.93 volts to it. Close enough or +12V.
Can the system work and still provide the right spark for the plugs without the main thing not working properly? Anyone run into this?
I have a stock coil and will be converting it back to OEM soon. I just wondered if anyone else had run into a similar problem. Stupid aftermarket crap.

my 6a box crapped out on me on the way to a car show one night in the middle of the stix. anyway had it towed back home, and when I got back from the show I just bypassed the 6a box until I could get it swapped out. just feed the ign. wire and the tach wire from insid your dist. straight int the external coil that should get you running again.

Re: Can the MSD ignition system function w/o MSD 6A working right? (5THGENSI)
My car still fires up and runs, but it somewhat bogs a little when I get it above 6K rpms. I plan on rewiring the system to bypass the MSD 6A, but my question is would this system still fire even though the MSD 6A is not performing correctly?

You can bypass the 6al completely and just use the coil. I have done this in the past with other units.

I rewired the system and have bypassed the MSD 6A. I am using the Blaster SS Coil with the MSD cap. It works. Thanks for the information. Easy to switch up.
