Default !! !! CAMS CAMS CAMS CAMS !! !!

This is a cam question, which there are probably different views, but when running a turbo setup with LOTS of boost, what is the benefit of sticking with the stock VTEC cams or going with a set of AGRESSIVE, streetable non-VTEC TURBO cams?

I know some of the racers are still using VTEC cams, but lots aren't, anyone?

VTEC=Great idle (and low end) on the most radical grinds

True, but the car's idle also has lots to do with who is tuning your car. Won't I actually be able to get more low end or the same amount with a moderate turbo cam, when compared to a radical vtec one?

From what Ive read, turbocharged engines dont like high overlap, long duration cams. I guess if your boosting past 1 bar or more, there is probably some advantage to getting a hotter cam, but the difference might not be as big as you think. This is probably why youve seen some people run bigger cams, while others dont. If someone could provide a good definition of reversion, that might help.

A radical cam will not idle smooth no matter how it is tuned. Cams are usually ground to work in various rpm ranges. That's the beauty of VTEC. It works in all the ranges. IMHO the only time you would want to convert a VTEC to a non-VTEC is in a drag race only car that would leave the line at 5500 rpm or more. It is basically operating in VTEC all the time so why not bypass it with a custom grind and rockers. Because of the longer duration and overlap in that cam, it will not give you a smooth idle but who cares...
