Default Cams?

I'm building a 300-350whp b16 turbo and have a bunch of honda cams including ITR cams, gsr cams and b16 cams. I'm toying with the idea of using ITR intake cam and gsr exhaust cam... good idea or bad idea?

If you're running a cast manifold and a relatively small turbo I'd just run the GSR's.

If you're running a ramhorn and a bigger turbo run ITR's front and back.

Why would you want to run ITR intake and GSR exhaust? Exhaust flow is just as important to making power as intake flow.

I used that combo on a SC b16 I had some years ago and it worked well so figured it might work good on a turbo setup?

I fail to see your point. You would make more power at less boost with bigger cams, and probably have a better powerband. People don't port heads and run stuff like Skunk2 Pro1's for nothing.

He has GSR and ITR cams, unless he's so broke that he needs to sell the ITR's which should fetch a few bucks more he should probably run the ITR's.

Well I have both sets, ITR and GSR and my power goals aren't massive(300-350whp) my turbo is a td05 20g. I guess having most power from 5k+ would be better than huge midrange and poor top end as car is going to be used for some drag racing so should I go with the ITR or GSR cams?

Any of those cams will get you to 350whp no issues. The ITR cams will be the best choice, great boost cams.

the point is the gsr cams work, and he isnt shooting for 900+hp so the itr cams would be better served in a box waiting for a bigger badder build.

i made my power in a b16, and 737@32psi of boost as for the top end i trap 150mph with ezzzzzzzz as well at 26psi

looks pretty good on the power band to me

ask your tuner man he will be able to point you in the right direction, and since he is the one tuning it will be what he is comfy with as well

With ITR/CTR cams more power can be made with a little less boost also the overlap is better so the response with type r cam will be a little better. If you have the ITR/CTR cams just sitting around them use them. I have seen 20-30WHP on boosted applications when going from B16 or GSR cams to type r cams with a little tuning at the same boost. Using the cams will not make them go bad or anything so just use them. No point is leaving them for a future build when you can run them now and also use them again in the future, its not like cams are a one time install and use.

since you have ITRs already, i would use that. if you were to buy some, i would just go with gsr cams. they're $50 everywhere.

I'll be tuning it myself. I think i'll try pick up a set of cam gears and fit them to the ITR cams then play with them on the dyno to give me best power

i picked up about 10 hp on the dyno with my itr cams messing around with the camgear settings (415 to 425hp). i think the settings were +2/-2, but its been a while.

good choice on the itrs.
