Built tranny options...input needed...experts look inside
Hey guys, I was hoping some of you tranny experts on here could help me get my hands on a built tranny. I know of several options from buying an already-built unit to buying the different gearsets and FDs...but I need to weigh my options and get what is right for me. Yes, I have searched, but it appears that different companies get better/worse over the years, as well as ever-changing options. Anyways, the setup I will need is going to be a B-series cable. I will need it to withstand around 500whp but up to 650whp, possibly. I have a rev limit of 9.2k and I am running 25.4" bias plys. I need something with gearing that will work with that tire size, as well as when I decide to run 24.5" slicks down the road. The rev limit may also be raised, as well, so please keep that in mind. I own a wavetrac diff already, so that is not needed, unless I am steered toward buying a fully-built unit out of the box with LSD having to be included. So what are my options? I would prefer something not EXTREMELY expensive, but please give me all options and help with gearing, etc, any and all input is EXTREMELY appreciated!!! thanks!
I forgot to mention, this is NOT a DD. It is a street/strip car that I take on short-ish drives around town occasionally and will be drag racing as well.
Cable trans? WHat clutch? If you are using a twin disk, have fun with broken clutch cables. I would go with a gsr transmission out of a 92-93
why not just go with a hydro setup? if you have a fabricator he should be able to do it easily, plus it opens up more options
I have been using a cc twin with no issues whatsoever. I may go to hydro if need be, but I think both of you missed the point, I am looking for BUILT tranny options...as in an already built tranny or a gearset from MFactory, Liberty, PPG, etc...it doesnt really matter if I go cable or hydro, the options will still be the same, ya know.

Exactly...I just dont have 8k+ to spend...Id like much less expensive options. Is G-Force offering a gearset or full tranny? Price? Wait?
well considering that next to nothing is BUILT for the cable transmissions. I would say go with the hydro. And then pick what ever gears and setup you want. I have never seen a BUILT cable transmission.
Well, after speaking with a few people, I realize that I DONT need a new gearset for my goals, and Im going with a completely rebuilt, freshened up tranny with a GSR 2nd (stronger synchro and better gearing) and carbon synchros along with my Wavetrac LSD. It just makes sense for what I need, and in the future, if need be, Ill do something different.
For the record, I chipped teeth off of my ring gear and completely shredded the teeth off of the pinion gear/output shaft doing a (third gear)pull (on the freeway;NOT during a launch) at less than 450whp, and less than 80% throttle. '01 GSR hydro trans with less than 40k on it. Ever since, I've been contemplating on whether to repair it with OEM gears, or take this as an opportunity to upgrade to an Mfactory final drive gear set.
I'm stuck on what to do because I don't understand why the gears failed under said circumstances. Also, the passenger side outboard DSS Stage4 axle joint had separated due to the retaining ring coming off(axle didn't 'fail' it was perfect after a rebuild) simultaneous to the gear failure. It's difficult to accept the two, for the most part, unrelated things as coincidence. But I am having a hard time figuring out how they could be related.
Anyways, good luck with your build!

youll break a gear at some point using oem gears. I don't care what anyone tells you.
I have a liberty box and ive been lovin it. Its nice to not really think about breaking gears when going down the track....its still possible but its just really hard to do.
