Default Built Block or Built Head? Why?

I have my turbo kit on my car and I'm pretty please with it. My next step is to build either a head or a block. Just curious of what you would rather have and why.

PS, it's a single cam

I know (or atleast I'm under the impression of) a built block will let me run higher boost and a built head will let me run less boost but I will get more hp per pound of boost.

its already proven that people are making decent power with stock sohc heads. Them Vitara non-vtec junkies come to mind . i say put money into an LSD, and then a built block....

Yeah, I've seen posts where people ditch the VTEC heads for non-VTEC ones.

i don't think they "ditched" the vtec head. I think they where just working with what they had.

Yeah I guess so, haha. I was looking into those Vitara pistons, looks like a good way to make some power

Sound like you already know.Build the head for power and the bottom end for reliability.

Well I was kind of leaning towards which one to do first. I don't have a lot of funds so I'm looking for the cheapest way to make the most power. I saw a sohc vtec turbo with a built head with a zex cam and stock block run 12.0 on drag radials.

But also, my friend sean has a (I know its a dual cam, but) built head that gets almost 10whp per pound of boost more than a stock head.

So I'm trying to figure out what would net the most power with the least amount spent.

EDIT: I just re-read your post NJIN. looks like i'll lean towards the block.

Any other input?

i think the cheapest way to make HP is turn up the boost. But now think about this... which is gonna be the first limiting factor, the head or the ringlands?

i vote on ringlands. I think you're gonna run into traction issues before the head is preventing you from making power.

build the bottom end...sleeve it forged internals etc.....you know youll turn up the boost

the head is the cheap part...springs and retainers and valves dont cost much

built block first for sure

id rather be able to throw 28 lbs of boost on a built block then throw 8 lbs on a stock block and rev higher

Definitely build the block. When you're boosting on a stock motor that is definitely the weakest link.

..build the bottom end,and boost the snot out of it.

James, Sean gets that much HP per pound mostly cause of the size of his turbo, but i guarantee your powerband it so much better then his, he has like a 2000 rpm of full boost....

Yeah, it shouldn't be too expensive. I don't have a lot of money to throw around though. Thanks for the replies guys.
