Default building engine for turbo.

I am looking to get 230whp from a b18b after turbo.

my motor has bout 100k, so I guess I should rebuild it or something after boosting it. I am not quite familiar with rebuilding the motor.

What are the parts and procedures I should do with the motor b4 boosting it, so that it will be reliable for 230whp (I am guessing that about 18psi?) BTW, I am on a budget... so whatever is REQUIRED to be safe.... I have to do... or I better do

any suggestions/opinions will be helpful...
I didnt find much about the details in rebuilding the engine with the search...

thanks!!

You should be able to reliably pull 230whp on 9-10 psi on the stock motor.

You don't need 18 psi to be running 230 whp. 100k isnt that bad if you havent beaten your motor. I would use the money that you'd use to rebuild your motor and put that towards a Hondata. If you get it well tuned I dont see why it wouldn't be reliable.

i agree. as long as your car runs fine now and doenst have a lot of problems, you should boost 7-8psi safely on your motor. i would advise purchasing a boost controller also for this set up. if you want to fork out a few extra bucks and be safe as well as have a little more power, pistons and rods are always a nice upgrade. with these as well as larger injectors, boost controller, s-afc, or hondata (your choice), you can run 10psi safely but i wouldnt run any more then 12psi on stock sleeves.

Re-sleeving with iron sleeves means replacing the cylinder walls with solid iron. Basically means your sleeves will never cracked if tuned properly. Its how the pros are able to run boost levels in excess of 30+psi.....

re-sleeving makes your block virtually bullet proof. youll blow your head off before you crack a sleeve

For what you described, just change the pistons in the car with new rings. Get a blockguard and a pretty good fuel management like hondata w/ injectors.

replace the pistons, rods, and rings... those always seem to fail the most.

no a blockguard goes between the inner and outer casting of the block. this makes the top of the deck a closed deck so it stronger.

you can also buy an LS longblock, head and block with internals for around 500ish..
boost the hell out of your motor for now...get standalone...

honda's block are stronger that most of you think...the biggest weakest link out of honda turbo is the ECU, get hondata, boost happy, if you blow it, do a swap....simple..

how much boost can the stock b18a1 rods take if they are shot peened and polished. could i run those rod's and aftermarket piston's like JE and run about 12-13 psi safely if i run like a hondata and injector's and maybe msd?

For 10-12 psi, you should be fine with upgraded rods and pistons. The other major upgrade when boostting at that level is to upgrade the injectors to a 310cc.
Check out the block page on the webstore http://www.exospeed.com
Theres different stages of blocks that are available for your build up.

I talked to a shop owner about boosting my GS-R. He said block guards aren't needed, and actually hamper the water flow too much, and thus your engine runs hotter because of the lack of water flow, even with the so called "high water flow" ones. He builds plenty of high hp B18's and B16's with just sleves.

-Andrew

EDIT: There are some block guards out their that advertise the ability to just tap it in w/ out machining, but I don't know if I'd trust those or not.
