Default Building 2.0L b16a2 myself this time... (parts from last motor) sorry 56k

for those interested in following what I'm doing...

I'm still waiting for the cherry picker to come in so I can pull the stock block out for Benson sleeves. I plan to use the parts from my other motor that was not sleeved properly, or at least moved twice on me. and also use the built head from that motor which was checked as good by a local machine shop.

what you see are rods from the Crower stroker kit along with JE pistons overbored...

here's the condition of the JE pistons, you can see some wear on the sides. hope they are still good to use...

I will gather the remainding parts and tools needed for when the block gets back from being sleeved and bored to match the JE pistons.

and of course bug you HT pro's with questions along my jurney...
too much crap... can a beginner like me make a working beast motor from two blown motors?

we'll see

for more info on how I got where I am with these motors check out:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=820882

and here's my last built motor mod list (that I was going to sell but am taking parts from instead)

B16A2 block
crower stroker kit to get the 2.0L
Comptech engine rebuild : (second rebuild)
resleeved, bored & honed cylinders
resurfaced, balanced and blue printed
polished crank shaft
custom JE forged pistons (9.0:1)
Moly rings and replaced all bearings
Hot tanked

B16A2 head
Supertech valves and valve seals (iron valve guides)
Type R rocker assembly
GSR cams
Toda springs and retainers
Multi angle valve job
Port & polish

the scuffing on the side of the piston is not normal wear. anybody else think so?

haha, thanks guys... they are both great, but both can be a pain in the *** also. definately worth it all in the end of course...

yeah I'm worried about this, I really hope I don't have to buy more pistons, running out of money fast. does anyone else have any input about this?

all the pistons have simular wear (both sides), this was the worst of them. I'm wondering if it's because the sleeves moved unevenly...? I took a quick measurement of the piston skirt and it seems to be not perfectly round. maybe I did not have the caliper centered but the diameter perpendicular to the wear sides was less by about 20 thousanths or so... I plan to send them to Earl to check them out for sure.

are these pistons ok, or can they be saved?

I want to hear what Earl says when he gets them. When are you sending them out to Earl?

I see a B16a with torque (for once, lol) in the near future You should be making more torque than a B18b and have a nicer powerband with this setup!

haha yeah I hope to see loads of torque...

the plan is to send out the pistons with the block... hopefully I can get the block out of the car this weekend, and finish striping it.

Maybe you could look into coating the skirts to increase the lubricity, cut down on the scuffing, and take up some of the lost clearance.

I didn't think about that. Swain Tech has a PC-9 coating that runs $39.00/piston. That includes domes and skirts. They also have the option for only the skirt which runs $18.00/piston.

hmm, I asked Earl about coating the pistons, he said it sounds like a good idea but doesn't know how long it lasts...

anyone use this coating on their pistons? seems cheap enough to try... whats your take on it?

pistons shouldn't scuff...they should never touch the side walls....bad sleeves, metal shaving in oil could cause that.....

if the pistons aren't out of round you should be okay

my girl can out perform my car for sure, I dont need a dyno to know that...

so anyway, before my girl inherently thread jacks me again, does anyone else have any comments about coating the pistons?

Maybe you could ask Tbone about skirt coatings. From what I've read of his posts, he probably has enough experience and observation with coatings in general to offer some bit of useful info....if he doesn't mind being bothered.

The OEM moly coatings on the P73 and PCT pistons does wear off after a while. It comes off even if you hot tank the pistons. That's the best I can offer.

The scuff on his skirts are from JG sleeves that sunk

Dustin, call 585-889-2786. Shipping from your area should be $5.00 - $8.00 to them. Also, ask them how long the skirt coating lasts. I know they last quite a bit longer than the dome coating but ...
