Default BTM or Headgasket, which one would you pick!?!?!

What up yall, Which would you go with for the best detonation prevention? Head gasket of Boost Timing Master? I have a 99 GSR, boosted @ 7PSI and the pistons cracked from detonation after having the turbo on for one week.

I'd say better fuel supply or management...what are you running? Also if interested I have a cometic HP gasket for the GSR brand new for $90, but I dont think a HG provides detonation prevention.

My parts list is in my sig. Thanks for the offer on the gasket, but If I buy one I'm going with the R-Ideal gasket.

your car should not be detonating at 7psi with your set-up.

you have other issues you need to sort out first.

the btm is garbage and the cost of the head gasket/labor is definitely not worth.

The rIdeal head gasket is a combination of two stock headgaskets with a copper plate sandwiched in between. The idea behind this is that it will lower your compression thus "preventing" detonation.

Your signature says your setup, however it doesnt say what you have for fuel delivery/management...what is it?

I have a MSD In-line fuel pump and Boost dependent fuel pressure regulator, that's it. My engine is being rebuilt as we speak and I want to ensure I don't crack and pistons again! I only had the turbo on for a week for God's sake! While I had the car running, it was unable to go full throttle over 4500 rpm before the boost would just cutout. I could go 3/4 throttle all the way to 7500rpm though.

sounds like you were running lean. what's the disc size in your vortech? or is it adjustable? I'd sell the pump and the FMU and get an AFC and 450cc injectors (if you have no cash). If you do have cash, get a stand-alone and some 450's...OR, if you want to stick with the FMU, then I'd get the BTM. I'm happy with mine, but they're too expensive new. Don't waste your money on the head-gasket. really gimmicky. The Honda ones are perfectly fine.
