breaking in the motor
ok i am in the process of rebuilding my gsr and i know when it goes back in i got to break in the motor and i want to boost but not right away so i was wondering what is a good compression ratio piston to get i know stock gsr is like 10:1 or 10.6:1 but lower compression is better 4 turbo right?
what kind of oil pump should i got gsr or typr r?
and what type of piston?
(i have eagle rods so i know oem piston wont fit )

GS-R and Type-R are the same oil pump
9:1 - 10:1 is ok but the higher the comp. the more heat you make and increase the chance of detonation. so pick a fair trade off like 9.5:1 or 9.7:1

Funny thing about that, i have bought two oil pumps from the dealer, two Type-R pumps, the first time i thought they made a mistake but same thing the second time, the Type R pump cost about 60$ less. the GSR pump and LS pump are the exact same price to the penny around 170 and the Type R was like 106 or something.
so cliff notes, get the Typer R save some cash.

Your goals will determine your piston choice. Lower compression is going to allow you to run more boost on a lower grade fuel, BUT will adversely affect acceleration.
Higher compression will be more responsive off boost, but limits what you can make on a certain grade fuel.
What are your specific goals??

If you're ONLY looking for around 300whp, you can make that on the stock block. Save your money from the engine build and put it towards a better setup, or better yet, a great EMS and tune.
If all you want is 300whp, that can easily be accomplished on stock...check my sig. That's on a stock GSR block. I boosted it at 52,xxx miles and now i'm around 72,xxx after 2 years.

im a wiseco fan but yeah CP is known for there shelf tolerances.
NOT BASHING!!! there was a point when some of the older CP's had problems with chipping the valve relief area because of a design mishap, but its fixed now.

BIG wiseco fan here
X2 on the above statement. i like wiseco and CP the most, only concern with CP was the valve relief issue that seems to have been resolved.

CP and Wiseco are the two companies i would go with without any hesitation. My buddy Brandon uses them religiously in any D series work he does and to my knowledge hasn't had any problems with them.

Re: (1993gsrcivic)
Use CP pistons with a 9:1 c/r. Then get a B16 or Type R trans. Preferably something with a LSD. Longer gears are definately not better for boosting. Hope this helps.
