BOV's don't function on low boost? true or false?

Hey guys just wondering because i have heard this a few times from different people. On low boost occurances (7-8 ish psi) is it true that the bov cannot even be heard? I know the bov still works because there is still pressure that needs to be released but can it be heard on such a low boost setting?
Thanks,
Dan
Thanks,
Dan
I can hear my bov release pressure if I let off the gas even before I build boost. Like if I cruise up to about 5 inches of mercury and let off the gas suddenly, I can hear the BOV.
So mine works even before I get positive pressure.
I have a 1st gen DSM bov.

What? Dude, blow off valves don't "blow off at 25psi", they "blow off" when you let off the gas, doesn't matter how much boost you are running.
lol

I'm saying when he adjusted his bov it wouldn't blow off as loud for anything under 25 psi, it would still blow off but not as loud.

I had a MR2 with a RFL on it (and a small snail)....would blow off at 5" vacuum. hated that thing after a little bit. under vacuum and blowing off makes no sense, but it sure did it.
it depends on the design and size of the acutal "valve" of the blow off valve...In general-the smaller it is, the louder it'll be and the less it'll flow....the larger it is, the quieter it'll be and the more it'll flow..
I trimmed the bottom coil off the BOV spring that makes a flat bottom, it's slightly louder. Only reason I did that is b/c Im running 6 psi and have no plans of any higher, but I could barely hear it.

Same here. And this is on a tial.
A BOV doesnt have to make noise to 'function'. It just has to function.

Ricer.
So sad to see someone worried about not being able to hear their bov @5psi. I would love to have a bov that operates great and makes no noise. No one would know u were boosted.
I got a tial because they are and from what I read were on the quieter side of things. Didn't want a dsm (they work, but are a tad bit ghetto) or a greddy (had one and wanted a bit better quality) so I got the tial. Though I can't hear it my bov cycles at idle and blows off before I build boost like a lot of others on here say. The saving grace is that at WOT in between shifts you cant even hear it because my engine/exhaust are so loud.
Cliffs: False.
