Yes. It needs to be tighter (adjusted).

we had a problem with a 1st gen fluttering on when it's blowing off.. check your vacuum source... our problem was due to a bad vacuum source.. and make sure the vacuum source isn't on the turbo compressor because that will cause it also. good luck

D'OH! Ensure your vacuum source line is short and big. It should also be lonley on the plenum. (meaning, not tee'd from hell).

That should help repsonse. if not, do a search on "crushing" it.

i had my boost gauge, blow off valve, and wastegate all Ted off that sucker and i had no boost creep (wastegate), all manual boost readings were consistent with afc readings (gauge) and i had 0 flutteratige from the bov

i had the same problem. A bov will flutter when there is not enough pressure in the charge pipe.

It most certainly CAN be adjusted thank you very much!!! can't be "un-adjusted" but can be adjusted to hold MORE boost...

just put it in a vise and crush it down a little so it'll hold more boost...hopefully this tells you why it's adjustable one way but not the other

you know what i mean like i cant change it from soft to hard. if i leaking some boost can it cause the bov to flutter or only a bad vacuum source.

technically, wouldnt you have to spread the spring out? that way the spring puts out more pressure TOWARDS the charge pipe so it doesnt leak? Crushing the spring would creat less tension and wouldnt that mean the more pressure in the charge pipe, the easier it is to push open the BOV? Just a thought, im probably wrong....

you are. crushing the spring increases the spring tension....it's already at a set spring load the way it is. you crush the housing in on it some more and you put that much more compression on it resulting in you having to have MORE pressure to make it release against the diaphram.

oh, and leaking boost is either bad hose connections on the charge pipes or the bov is set too soft

I had the same problem with mine. I went through 3 BOV's before I found one that opened fast enough. Began with the old school SS Blitz, then DD Blitz, and ended with Greddy Type S which works fine with no fluttering.

I had also thought it was my vacuum source but the results were the same from all vacuum sources.
