Default bouncing off rev limiter w/ forced induction

How bad is this for your engine? Is it worse to do this with a turbo than it would be if you were n/a? And are two stage rev limiters bad for your engine, just sitting there bouncing of rev limiter before you launch?

The factory rev limiter is a fuel cut which is bad either if you have n/a or fi. But it can be more catastrophic with a turbo, supercharger, or nitrous. A two stage revlimiter from what I understand is a spark cut which is much better for the motor.

as for hitting the rev-limiter, i asked that question maybe a week or less ago. the question was.... yes its very very bad.... so don't miss-shift.

you shouldnt hit the "fuel limiter", spark limiter is okay so set your msd 100rpm before stock cutout or get an ECU rechipped/standalone.

P.S. this is for the unconventional thinkers only: fuel cut in a turbo car is no problem at all, it drops all the fuel to cylinders individually. So there will be no fuel at all in one cylinder at a time, so there is absolutely nothing to detonate.

well i bang off the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd at about 9600 rpms every pass i make and i've never had a problem. i wonder why??

I dont recomend hitting the stock rev limiter because it leans out the engine and before the head is completely dry of fuel there is detonation because o the lean condition. Beacuse of the high revs you dont hear the detonation and this can cause damage if done often.

I cracked all 4 of my ring lands on stock pistons when I hit the factory rev limiter!! If you have your motor perfectly tuned for highest HP, It is the most dangerous to hit rev limit. A perfectly tuned car is going to have higher comp pistons, furthur advance on ignition and a leaner a/f ratio so rev limit is VERY bad!! If you are worried, run lower comp ratio pistons, retard your timing more, use a intercooler and make your fuel curve stay below 12 a/f/r and use highest octane gas possible then you probably could be ok to hit rev limit. Oh yeah forged pistons help too!!!

As someone mentioned above, I really suggest an ignition cut rev limiter as well. That's what I'm using on my E6K and it works great.

There was some dude in a turbo civic at the track yesterday that was doing this. Every time he did a burn out in the water pit, he would sit there in 1st gear and it would ping against the limiter - ping ping ping 20 times. The wheels weren't even spinning that good. He should have done it in 2nd gear and controlled the rpms to not bounce up like that. Argh, I'm suprised he didn't blow something in his motor that day. And shifting down the track he was bouncing off the rev limiter.
