Default Boosting a D16Y8?

Hi,

I'm looking for a daily driver and I've heard that the D16Y8 is a great motor to boost. I've heard that with boost it can reach mid 13's with a decent driver and still keep all the creature comforts.

Is this true? Are D16Y8's boosted a lot? Are mid 13's really that easy to obtain? Would you recommend it? Trying to learn as much as I can on boosting this motor so if you know anything about it let me know!

Thanks!

Since your post is nice, I shall help

1.I've heard that with boost it can reach mid 13's with a decent driver and still keep all the creature comforts. It's not that easy as installing a turbo, but yes you can acheive mid 13's

2.Are D16Y8's boosted a lot Depends what you consider alot?

3.Are mid 13's really that easy to obtain? Yes and No, you need to get it tuned along with practice at the track.. and have a a few more modifications...

4.Would you recommend it? If you can't afford a swap, then yes

Thanks for the fast replies. Just a few more questions. Would you recommend any other motors of the EG/EJ/EK generation for boosting? I heard the D16Y8 is a very good base but what are some other options? Would you choose any before the D16Y8?

Thanks.

search more about y8s bottoms ends ive heard quite a few people spin crank bearings due to oil starvation when high boosting.. just like any other motor if you want to achieve 13s you will have to build it even if its just the bottom end..
also, there are quite a few websites you can look at (dont know names off hand) but sell moidified oil pumps so you will not have this problem
in a few months i am sending out a d16z6 to get fully built from top to bottom for my del sol i hope to accomplish at least low 12s so anything is possible its all about the parts and a good tune.. whether its women or cars, a good headjob is always important

a good bolt on turbo kit os the Greddy kits. they are relyable and can get you to where you want. you will need larger injectors and a front mounted incercoole rnad larger exhaust system, but the kit shoudl get you there if done right and tuned correctly.

the Y8 greddy kits are fine. any y8 will do, you coudl even get a 92-95 D16Z6 motor. it has more potential that the Y8 and the head flows much better.

if you car alreayd has a Y8 then jsut use that and bolt and go. with proper tuning and fueling setup and such 240=250 wheel pwoer is very capable and high 13's is very likley (if you can drive)

I'm building a kit for my sohc zc d16a (jdm d16z6) it will save you allot of money and you will learn allot in the process. if you want to get a kit i have heard good things about the edelbrock kit (more complete).

Thanks, don't actually have the car yet...just searching for a good base. Definately will look for the 92-95 D16Z6 motor though, that was just what I was looking for. Thanks! Any other suggestions are welcome!
