Boosted stock b18c with 57 trim turbo
Sorry if this is a stupid question this is my first Honda iv owned always been in to Subaru but any ways. I have a b18c with a garret 57 trim turbo the tune on the car right now from what the previous owner said was 288 whp on 8psi I was wonder how much more I could have a tuner push the car and still be safe. Also what could I rev it to on the stock valve train boosted?

all a matter of opinion. id say 300whp would be my safe limit. others have said 350whp. id also keep the rev limit under 8200, if on oem valvetrain. hows the mileage, and valve clearance on your valvetrain.
keep in mind, you would need to higher map sensor to run boost over 11psi. and boost puts stress on valvetrain just as much as the block. i think its just easier to manage valvetrain stress rather than the block.

Re: Boosted stock b18c with 57 trim turbo
I would first
Do a compression/ leak down test
Do you have an oil pressure gauge?
I pushed my stock gsr block to 370whp. There are tons of people who made more power past that. Good fuel and a good tune will keep it together.
If you have e85 local i would switch to that. On e85 i wouldnt be scared to push 350 on 91 i would stay around the 300 mark.
93 i dont know never used it

Re: Boosted stock b18c with 57 trim turbo
great turbo choice for that motor if you ask me!
well if you go up past about 10 psi you need another map sensor anyway. 300-325 is about all id want on a stock motor. not worth the risk: bad tank of gas, heat soaked motor etc. bring the boost up to 9.5-10 psi, then set the boost cut to around 10.5 psi. i think the stock map goes up to 10.75 or something like that just barely shy of 11 psi like ls joker said.
id keep that rev limit 8200-8300rpm. if you bang off it a few times for whatever reason, the inertia in the motor will cause it to rev a few hundred rpm over the limiter.
ive seen oem valvetrain fail anywhere over 8500 rpm usually in the form of cracked retainer. valve float may also start to occur.
i tuned my friends gsr a while back, 300whp on 9 psi with that same 57 trim garrett. it was a blast to drive every day. quick enough, still reliable, got decent traction, got right about 30 mpg too. it was enough for him to go low 13's at about 110 mph with some seat time and a tiny bit of weight reduction.

Re: Boosted stock b18c with 57 trim turbo
I have been pushing 300whp for 2 years on my gsr. Recently upped the boost on my 5457 and pushing 370 whp now on pump and 410whp on race gas. Still completely stock. Not even head studs since virgin motor. We will see how long it holds now.

Re: Boosted stock b18c with 57 trim turbo
Yeah that's true. I'm sure the vtec head makes a HUGE difference, not to mention the higher compression of the b18c1. My setup (basically stock b18b 9-1 compression) is making a little over 300whp, but it took me 16psi to do it. I'm also on stock cams, cast manifold, and tiny .48ar hot side with a precision 5431. It is pretty responsive though, and I'm sure I'm making close to the same torque as hp with the way the ls head flows and how quick the turbo comes on.
