Default boosted n2o d16z6

i have (in the machine shop) a z6 block...LS machined rods, JE forged pistons, balanced crank, arp studs and bolts, pinned, decked and line bored to 1.7.....T3/T4 planned on 15psi..and a direct port 50 shot (wet)

i heard that D heads like to lift under boost..truth?
the machine shop said that the walls should hold up without sleeving...anyone have experience with this?

im a lil nervous about it have poor luck with my engines (this one is #4)

WILL IT HOLD UP?

i know tuning will be an issue...but lets assume a decent tune

thank you for your help

it shouldnt lift with arp head studs. also use a new oem mls headgasket and spray it down with copper spray.

ok..i was using a new oem gasket....where can i get copper spray?.......and i heard the same thing (about using an oem gasket)but why not an aftermarket copper gasket?

you thinkthe block will be strong enough to hold 15psi and a 50 shot?
thanks

i wouldnt use an oem gasket you say its bored out correct? what bore is 77mm and with stock sleeves, i think not. And the ls rods wont hold, i guarantee they snap, lets say you have a decently sized turbo, such as a gt28, sc32 at 15 psi you should be close to 260 if not a little more hp, plus a 50 shot which will add more like 80 hp because its used in conjuction with a turbo. So theoretically you are putting down 340hp with thin as sleeves and ls rods, i say good luck cause your going to blow it up

yeah im worried about the sleeves

but i think the rods should be solid...the machinist said they were the rhardest rods he ever cut.....you know anyone who used ls rods in a d?

the rods wont hold i guarantee it. and the sleeves will crack 78mm is the largest you can go with aftermarket sleeves and as i said before you need a custom bore headgasket. As for the machinist saying they were the hardest rods he ever cut, he must not cut too many rods cause there are tons of helluvalot stronger/harder than ls's

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything but why cheap out on your setup after you got some good parts already. And on top of that I'm sure your machinist doesnt know what he is talking about. LS rods wont hold with your current setup because they aren't strong enough. Your going with boost and nos with what your wanting to do they wont hold. Why didnt you just spend to extra time to get some eagles or tunertoys rods? I'm sure for the amount that you paid for the rods and to get shot pinned and all that other stuff that you did you could have got yourself some decent rods. If you already have the forged pistons then why half *** the rods? If I were you just save some money and buy better rods. Its less for you to worry about later and you can make more power without worrying if the rods are going to break........just my .02 cents

the heads will lift without ARP head studs. in fact, when you go and replace the head bolts, they are very, very loose...on a d16...from my experience and others on turbod16.com.

now...the headgasket can still get blown even with ARP head studs. I know a person who's blown the HG even with ARP studs before.....

its all in the tune....

i say oem head gasket and arp headstuds...

i was going to go with the ls rods and grand vitara pistons, with the tdo4h i had on it previously...wasnt planning on really going crazy with it..... problem with that was the dowel size of the ls to the vitara..so thats how i ended up with je pistons..........now the time it took to get all this together made it damn near winter.. so i have more time and money to build it....i guess i will go with a forged rod...but sleeveing is soooo damn expensive...i dont know if i really wanna go there with it.... pinned, are the sleeves gunna be ok?....or is there anything else i have to worry about (besides axles, tranny)
