Boosted The DA today...

It is possible that the castings are not perfect, and the quench height is different in relation to the wrist pin. (I believe this is why I had this problem on the motor I built. It looked like the company who made the pistons opened up the valve clearance areas, and then raised the quench height to make up for the loss of compression. Hence, no valve clearance issues, but serious piston to head clearance problems).
do you know who made your pistons?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Ya. Honda of Japan made those pistons. P72-00 are JDM B18C (GSR)...
Any who, my buddy just had all this happen to him as well, I mean he killed an engine due to detonation.
Can't wait to see it back on the road Kyle, good luck dude!

I agree with redzc, the head looks like you can just smooth most of that out, as long as you dont mind losing a little material and lowering your compression ratio a bit.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I'd definitely have a good engine builder fix it though. That way he can blend the bowls right and make sure the combustion chamber sizes all match.
You should get ahold of Ray Romito and see if he'll do a honda head. (708) 460-8443
Or even High Flow Heads on 127th across from Laird's shop...They put out killer work.

Stock blocks have been proven time and time again if tuned properlly. Even then...if I blew up 3 stock B16 bottom ends, I still wouldn't have even approached the price of just a sleeved block, let alone all the other crap.
At moderate power levels, people have been able to push past 50,000 miles on a completely stock motor.

i bad tune would blow a built motor too.
a stock motor, tuned right can last plenty long and put out plenty of power and save a lot of money. for a street car, saving your money and using a stock block makes a lot of sense considering anything over 350-400 whp in a FWD is just wheel spin on the street. 350 whp is enough to get you in the 11s.
its all about tuning, making sure it runs right.

if kyle knew the engine had problems, he wouldnt have boosted it.
we were checking the head out tonight, and it seems that it had long-term signs of detonation.. pits/chips completely covered in many miles worth of soot/carbon. i'd estimate that sometime in its life, probably the beginning, it was detonating like CRAZY.
