Default boosted on a b16 open diff. really concerned about it.

im planning on boosting my 400 hp set on a b16 tranny. Ive busted the diff before on my all motor set up. Do you guys think the diff will bust again or was it just bad luck that i busted it last time.

edit: forgot to add that i will be running this at the track on 24.5 slicks.

My bro busted his diff on his b16 tranny first time at the track on his 400hp ls turbo setup if that helps at all haha. So far the back up LS tranny has been holding up fine.

its the differential pins, to much power and too much 1 wheel spin will straight up cause the spider gears to shear the differential pin. Mine did this, blows the spider gears right out of the case. Upgrade to at least an OBX or rock another transmission

I'm going to disagree here. My 400+hp setup did fine with the B16 tranny. However, open diff FTL with that much power.
Get an LSD and don't worry about anything but your gas mileage.

would it be safe to assume that a stock b16 tranny with a clutch upgrade should hold for a 315 whp build? i'm looking at an LSD but they're not cheap and if i don't need to do an LSD i'd rather not. is traction a huge issue with 300 whp?

i guess it depend on what B16 tranny he has. hydro will be fine but apparently the cable b16 trannies had weak diffs, or parts of it were.

Just out of curiosity, how well do the factory LSD's hold under power. For instance I have a JDM GSR trans with a factory LSD and didnt know if that can handle power like an OBX or something, thanks.

Ive ran open diff with 500whp on my LS tranny and had 24.5 slicks...

No issues at all! The tranny was fine

If you know how to treat the tranny right with that power you'll be fine... but if u abuse the tranny it'll slap ya in the face real quick. I've ate the final drive out of a ls trans goin to second before n/a. Currently running a b16 tranny on the turbo setup with no problems except i need a lsd

how much power are you making on your b16 with no LSD. how bad is it? i'm gonna be roughly 315 WHP and i'm considering an LSD but just curious how bad traction really will be.

Currently at 416whp, first gear tends to spin both tires but as soon as i go to second it just roasts whichever tire has less traction til the top of third (on street tires). With 315whp you might not NEED a lsd, but its something you wont regret

well if i was to race i just wouldn't drop the clutch at 9k haha. nothing like a little bit of turbo lag to tease the opponent anyways. i would like to get an LSD but like i said my budget is gonna be way over as it is. now that i know how to pull the engine i could pull motor and tranny in one day and install the LSD and have it all back together in one day.

If your on a budget then i'd finish the complete setup and see how much money you have left after tuning and the car is complete. Its just an option if the cash is there. Plus its something you can always upgrade later on fairly easily.

EXACTLY. i could pull the motor and slap the LSD in the tranny and have motor back in no problem. i wouldn't have been able to before but now that i've pulled the motor once i know how to do it the fast way. i'm gonna try with no LSD and i'll upgrade later.
