Default Boost Gauge Question

I guess this is the right place for this thread, as I am asking about a boost gauge.

My friends bday is coming up and me and my buddies always buy him something for his car. Anyways, he is always complaining about how inaccurate his autometer mechanical boost gauge is, so we are going to buy him an electronic boost gauge. The new Defi blue racer gauges look cool, and you can get the boost gauge for 160 to 170 shipped, which is somewhat cheap compared to other electronic boost gauges. Does anyone have any experience with this gauge? I know people like Defi in general, so I am thinking that these are good. If you dont recommend this gauge, or have another one to recommend let me know.

Thanks

defi blue gauge don't need to be hooked up to the control unit to work thus they are a bit cheaper.....now i found these cheaper gauges that are an alternative to Defi's dont have to much experience with them maybe someone who has will chime in http://www.ravspeconline.com/s...=1751

I have never heard of those. Those are by far the cheapest electronic gauges I have seen and they look good. Anyone know anything about these?

I actually ordered these from the very same company linked above. I've only hooked them up but havn't run them yet since my cars still down. I'm running the oil pres. and boost pres. gauges from them.

I bought my apexi boost gauge for a similar price! It is a nice piece and seems to be quite accurate! Just make sure to find one that is in PSI and not Bars

do you have boost controller? i assume your ride is turbo.. if not, skip boost gauge and get nice EBC, it will be your boost gauge and allow for peak hold readings

It is for my friends 91 MR2 turbo, he has a manual boost controller now, he just wants a more accurate gauge. Where can I get the Defi Blue racer for the cheapest? Any sponsors on here have it?

get something that records readings so you can revew later on. you can't catch every single detail. gauge is only as accurate as the person paying attention to it

thus, peak n hold gets my vote

what series autometer is he currently using? and what is innacurate? does it just read the wrong number or does it bounce around and not give a consistant reading?

honestly i think all mechanical boost gauges should work about the same. i have a defi d-gauge (discontinued) and its the only mechanical gauge they ever offered. you can pick up a VDO boost gauge for like $30. the autometers should be fine as well.

if you are gonna go electonic make sure to grab the full sweep type.

When the car is off, sometimes it reads below the zero, sometimes it reads above. He said that people on mr2oc.com have the same problem with the autometers.
