Default boost in first gear

has any one had this problem before, the boost in first gear is significatly lower than the boost in third? Actually, when I'm in first gear and second gear, I boost about 1-3 in first and then when I shift, I can usually get 4-5 and from there on, I can boost my full 6-7 psi. Why is this happening? I have an internally set wastegate at roughly 6.8 psi and at the moment I'm running the intercooler from the drag kit (which I believe is a spearco) and I'm not sure how much the pressure drop is but I'm just wondering why I'm not fully boosting the 6.8 or so psi in first and second gear. Thanks guys.

not enough exaust gases. besides, you wouldnt really want a full boost in first gear anyway. traction control is the only concern in first gear with FWD.

yup.. you dont wanna boost full boost in first gear. i only get a few psi of boost in first gear... but when i gun it in second gear... i hit full boost. you should be gettin full boost at high rpms in second gear.

If traction wasn't an issue, full boost in 1st would be amazing.

Yes, but even then it would be such a quick gear that you may have trouble getting into second gear fast enough! When I take of easy, get to say 10mph then punch it in first I hardly have enough time to see that I have to shift. It goes from 3000 to 7000 rpms so fast in first gear as it is, that if I had full boost at 3500rpms in first it would suck. There would be even less traction and less time to shift!

I boost in 1st. traction is not an issue w/ good tires.

Get a good Electronic boost controller. (AVC-R) My AVC-R will allow me to boost in 1st gear beacuse it keeps the wastegate complety shut until I hit full boost and it also knows what gear I am in, so that I can control how much boost I want in each gear.

I think my main problem may be that i don't have enough of a load in first and second gear to push my boost all the way up to the full 7 psi. I'm running a ct-26 outta a mk III supra and that thing is a 6 cylinder 3 liter so it's quite a bit larger. Anyway, I can attain full boost in the higher gears but it's the lower gears that generates a problem for spooling. What other things can I do (besides getting a new turbo) to help my car attain the full 7 psi in first and second gear??

I doubt that turbo is larger then my T3/T04e. so the size of the turbo should not be the problem.

things u can do to help spool up the turbo quicker are 1) get a good boost controller 2) get a good downpipe/exhaust system 3) i hope ur not still running a catlytic converter.

I hit full boost in first gear and every gear from there on......

..but then again I'm automatic

I do have to say boost in 1st on an auto kicks some serious ***, it gives some serious torque steer if your not paying attention, second gear pulls like a wild donkey.

Problem is launching an auto in first is siht..... I get perfect traction because until I hit boost in first like around 3000rpm to about 4000rpm I hit max boost again in first gear I make 0 power, but then once the boost comes it stays and pulls hard to the finish line..

60's of 2.734 suck but I still love my auto boost :D :D :D
