BMW 328i + psi...
A friend of mine wants to do a junkyard kit on his 98 328i. I want to know what the air sensor is on one of those(he doesnt have the car yet, but soon). Is it MAF, or MAP? He only wants like 5psi(probably all it would take anyway), and I was going to just use an FMU for ease of installation. Can somebody give me some pointers or websites that can help me out?
ps...I will be making the manifold, and everything else that needs making...

I have a '97 m3 and it's got a mass air sensor. The obd2 bmw's are supposed to pretty hard to work around as far as ecu's go. I really haven't looked into it too much though, there may be an easy way.

You really can't do a 'junkyard' kit on an OBDII M52 engine. It uses a MAF sensor(the 3" plastic tube just past the air filter that has a connector on the top, easy to see) - so you have to get software that will compensate for boost.
I guess you could use an AFC + rising rate FMU, but I think the tuning would be a nightmare. Popping an M52 wouldn't be cheap either.
Tell him to get an intake, exhaust, Shark Injector then some S52(96-99) M3 cams, or maybe even some mild Schrick cams. That would probably be ~200rwhp and a decent powerband all the way to 7k RPM. Low-mid 14's would probably be doable with a good driver.
BMW turbo kits are nightmares from what I've seen. There's a reason they cost ~$10k.

Try posting this at http://www.bimmerforums.com they have a special forum for FI bimmers..or you might wanna give Karl a call at http://www.activeautowerke.com , they are pretty much the guru's for FI bimmers, theres a couple 600+ hp m3's running around down here in Miami but most of them are running AA's high price kits, but i thinking AA would be your best bet for tuning the car, i know they can burn custom ecu for all different applications...Good luck im still debating if down the road i should put together a kit for my M3

I also have a 97 M3 I converted to OBD-I(24# inj, OBD-I Intake manifold, 540i HFM, etc) OBD-II sucks in BMW bad, you can't get anything out of it.
I also know a fair share of people that have boosted a M3....its not a big deal...just like anything else you have to know how the stock enginemanagement works.
BMW already has a hecka fuel system...plus if you wanna be el cheapo you can hook a afc up to it.
EDIT:
The fact that it uses a hot film style air meter makes it alot easier to boost, no stupid CE lights etc because of boost. You can DIY a supercharger fairly easy...lot of people use Vortech
