Default Blown Engine? Thoughts Required

Setup:

built LSvtec-forged guts
T3/T4 57trim
3" exhaust
RC630's

90 DA tuned with crome.

Tuned the car at 6 psi and it ran great, so my buddy went and got a 10psi spring and replaced the spring that was in his tial gate. We got the tuned sorted out after we blew a charge pipe, no biggie. Got that sorted out, finished up the tune and was about to call it a night when he decided to have a little bit of fun on the hwy and just as he hit the 6500rpm mark at 10psi, smoke filled the cabin...

We pull over on the shoulder, everything looks fine, no fluids anywhere, not overheating, but it sounds like its running on 3 cylinders.. and its pushing a decent amount of vapour through the breather hole on the v/c and its huffing smoke out the exhaust like mad, looks like a bloody mosquito cloud. The smoke didnt smell like coolant or look white. It was more so black and smelled very much of fuel, possiblly oil...? The oil level was down, but not milky at all..

Im gonna tear into it in the morning to see what it might be. I couldnt hear any audible knock or ping, mind you i dont have a set of det cans (need to really get some).

Just looking for some insight guys.

appreciate the help

Post back when you take it apart. Then we can help. Also. What did your A:F look like? What did your ignition timing look like? Need more details

Check your compression, simple test that will let you know a lot.

a/f = bang on 11.4
fuel pressure = 80
Compression = 9:1ish
RPM = 6500-7000
Fuel Octane = 94
dunno IAT

No pics of any broken parts... dunno what's wrong.

Turbo kit = t3/t4 57trim, tial 38mm wastegate, greddy type-s blow off valve, mahle 9:1 forged pistons, forged rods, LS/Vtec engine, type r cams, custom manifold, 3 inch downpipe, 3 inch exhaust, 630cc injectors, aebs fuel rail, walbro 255 pump, etc

It's a nice custom kit I spent a lot of $$ on. Will tear into it l8r. Thought maybe someone could shed a ray of hope in my thunderstorm lol

injector stuck open?? bad sparkplug/wires??
pull the plugs and see if all 4 plugs look the same, i'm guessing one will be covered with fuel.

do a compression and leakdown test to make sure the motor is still good

edit: whats your AF like at idle now, considering its smoking like gong show

At idle the a/f ratio is still purring along at 12.6 - 13.2

. Just runs a lil rough like it's only firing on 3 cylinders.
Will definitely check plugs/wires/etc and do the compression test. #'s to follow.

Yep, before and after the air fuel ratios stayed the same. No a lick of difference which was weird.

timming I'll have to post up later when I check with my tuner. Car is at his place and he'll be taking it apart to find the cause since I'm stuck at work.

lol it'll be my fourth one... no thanks. New car with a bolt on kit if it comes to that.

Local shop we deal with said possibly spit a spark plug. Overheated the ceramic and popped it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that.

Few more hours till I can go check.

damn those are some small *** injectors for a built engine..or hell even a stock block boosted engine. What duty cycle were you running them at?

630's are good for almost 400whp. Small? Not for the street, maybe if you run a gt42 b16 on meth & more psi than your rear tires for your DD...

Its definately a piston problem. Last LS I saw produce Viet Nam-size smoke clouds had shattered #1 & #4 piston ringlands (all the way around both!), and the smoke was a thick dark white almost like coolant.

I'm curious what the timing was set to. Maybe it was too aggressive, you had bad gas, the wg spiked for a second, and... ?

i'm takin a wild guess here but maybe detonation took out the electrode and your piston wont be pretty.
ftw
