I blew mine about a month ago. I got lot more torque, HP, and lost traction. I get pretty sounds when I shift now, and don't waste my gas on ricers...

Oh wait, you meant blow blow.... Hopefully that doesn't happen any time soon

I haven't yet, but my friend was running a 12:1 fmu without an inline fuel pump.
1)So use an inline with an fmu.

1) Blew a 1997 Civic EX up - no oil in it (before I knew anything about cars). Dealer found a timeslip in my glove compartment, and voided my warranty

2) Driving my friends 1994 Civic hatch on the track with a B18B and 100-shot... leaned out in 4th gear, melted pistons.

I lifted a headgasket but that was only a $210 fix. $100 for cometic gasket and $110 for arp head studs.

what the hell ? anyone can blow their motor....all turbo setup is harmless, it's all in your right foot....

I knew peoples who have been turbo for years and years....without blowing their **** up....then Jake, after 15 minutes, his is blown because FMU line snapped off by accident...

double, triple, quadruple check everything, my rule of thumb is always, 2 zip ties at every vacuum lines connection.., 2 hose clamp at every fuel line connection if I am not using Earl's hose ends...

make sure the setup is correct, then use it responsibly....

stan

PS: I had a heatlhy running car for a while until I decided to hammer the **** out of her one night, then BOOM..cracked ringlands in 8 spots....it can happen

I broke the ringlands on my pistons and spun a bearing after a month of turbo. I learned that stock h-series engines don't do too well with boost.

My I/H/E D16A6 blew with about 90,000 miles. I was WOT in 5th gear doing about 90 up a half mile stretch on I40 that is probably 35% grade. Not sure what happened but I put a nickel sized hole in piston #2. The motor still ran (poorly) but it sounded like Subaru.

does cracking a ringland count as a "blown engine"? If so then I am guilty. How to avoid it? Don't boost on cast pistons

buddies stock d15b2 (8v cx engine) that he had laying around...
decided to throw on a 14b on it with no engine managment, and no boost gauge...
just to beat the **** out of it...suprisingly it last 3 days of around 11 psi of boost...
i don't understand out, but when it blew...IT BLEW...

I blew an '87 crx si with a 150 shot of nitrous. Yes it was built, but I held it so I could beat a 5.0 crustang. My next one was a 390 bored 20 over and blown with a weiland 12psi supercharger. You should have seen the pistons fly they shot right threw the hood.

Spun a rod bearing trying to catch up to a car on the highway. I thought the EGT's could go just a big higher for a bit longer.....BANG.....KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

Almost $8K later, I have.....a potentially powerful motor that never seems to run right. Oh well.

1) Melted pistons boosting too long in 5th (January).
2) Oil pump decided, for no apparent reason, to die taking the bottom end with it (April).

It's been an expensive year

Not my honda, but its still a blown motor

Sucked some H2O into my 86 Toyota pickup (puddle was about 3 FEET deeper than i thought ), engine ran like crap for like a week. Then i was driving home on the freeway and heard a CRACK BANG CLANG CLANG CLANG and smoke everyware. My #3 piston decieds to leave the motor through the block

Now on my second motor with this truck, I think i have warped the head when it overheated to the point that it wouldnt run (temp gauge doesnt work).

----Oh well

400whp + 17000 miles (in 6 months) + stock sleeves = crack

13psi (..ish)
D16Y8
AFC hack, 450 dsm's
Stock timing
WOT =
Being able to see your firewall through the front of the block on #1.
Plus a rod poking through #4
When I took the engine apart & looked at it, #1 piston had actually shattered
(like glass).

Don't ask, I'm a dumbass.

i've always been meaning to ask...what causes a spun rod bearing? and is it avoidable?

There's quite a few things that can cause a spun bearing. Lack of oil (rarely) Over reving (rare but I've seen it) I've seen a 5000hp blown alcohol car spin a bearing. That was not a pretty sight. The guy just got the motor back together after 6 monthes of waiting for the heads. He was pissed. It turned out that it was leaning waaaaaay out. I told him he's going to need an inline but he said "nope". He was only running a belt driven centrifugal fuel pump and they need some sort of pressure to start with in order to pump.

my friends call me Mr Self Destruct. I blow **** up regularly. Crower cams killed a built 1.8 VTEC motor n/a. JUN valve train and cams and a over rev killed a stock b16. No oil killed a D16a6, long before i was into cars or knew a damn thing. I havent finished my turbo motor yet, so I havent had a chance to kill it yet. Amazingly enough, **** I put together for other people lasts forever....I don't get it.

spun a rod bearing in my teg about 2 months ago. Showing 2 people in the back what VTEC turbo feels like. took it to 8500rpm @ 1.3 bar in 3rd gear, slapped it into 4th.. and let go.. still didn't notice anything was wrong till we got to our destination.. revved the engine and all I could hear was KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.. one of the saddest days of my life Costed me almost $100 (dunno if that's considered cheap for you guys.. but a normal tow over here costs only $20-$40) to get it towed back to my garage.. money I didn't want to spend..

2 months passes by and the teg is still at the shop, sitting there having my new B20B block prepped for its new home. Now i'm reading a lot of posts about bad luck with boost+B20B blocks, and its scaring me. The B20B block I bought was beautiful though, inside was still like new.. I bought it with only 3000km on it, and wasn't beat on at all (from the looks of the internals)

Boost is fun.. but boost=$$$ and a steady right foot
