blowing oil from the valve cover *help*
i have a breather filter on the valve cover, and all of a sudden it's blowing oil out of it
is there anyway to stop this? possibly hook a tube and stick it somewhere?

You need to do a compression or leakdown test...sounds like the ringlands are gone....how does the car idle?

leave the car at idle, and pull out the dipstick, if you see a lot of smokes coming out of the dipstick tube, your ringland or rings may be toast

had the same prob a couple weeks ago, ringlands were busted. Go with forged pistons when you pull your block a part. It sucks.

check compression, and leakdown and plan out from there

How much oil are you talking about. That filter could eventually fill up with oil from vapors. I have a little oil residue on mine and had the same thing on my N/A B16. I'm planning on a catch can or just fabing up a stock type unit to add in the PCV system. Speaking of, Tony had a catch can he was bragging about. Tony PM with some details if you read this. I had the same problem when i blew my motor the first time. Most likely your ringlands are gone.

You stomping it or in VTEC alot? I know a lot of people consume a good amount of oil when doing this. I would defineately do a compression and leak down. Just start small and work up, it doesn't have to be a bad motor/ring lands. I hate thinking the worst right off the bat. Later Allen

Sounds like blow-by. Same thing happened to me. I had a breather filter on the valve cover. One day I noticed a lot of oil on the underside of my hood, and my fuel rail was kinda.....dirty. I had to keep adding oil every week or so. I was running really lean. Richened things up, and I don't lose oil as much. Got a catch can so the engine bay didn't get as dirty, but you can see oil stains on the inside of the catch can tubing. So I know I'm still getting blowby, but not as bad as I used to. But I'm pretty sure my rings are nice and toasted. The car still idles like stock, but I know they're bad.
Just a good excuse for a rebuild.

did u ever do a comp test? if not, comp test, then leak down test that should tell you things about ur motor.

Had and still have the same problem here, can see vapour coming out of the Sumps breather and I have oil spitting out the back of the turbo.... Its blowby I used to get oil coming out of the oil cap but have changed to thicker oil 10w-40 that has helped no oil out of the oil cap on valve cover any more but still spitting out of the turbo.... Funny thing is it hardly smoke when running. Did compression test and my number 3 cylinder down around 40 Still runs strong last a while yet, buying a brand new never used motor next

Re: blowing oil from the valve cover *help* (rbf351)
note that I have some oil in my intake too (with the Greddy kit you run a rubber hose back to the intake on the turbo). I did a compression test and i got 195 180 195 210 on my stock B16A2; so I guess its time for a leakdown just to be sure, but the point im trying to make is that even tho I have some "blow by" it doesnt mean my ring lands are shot, but who knows for sure.

assuming its a B16A2 with stock compression; 200+ would indicate a healthy motor. My motor has almost 70k on it, just FYI.

Re: blowing oil from the valve cover *help* (FredoSP)
it's a stock b16a2 bottom end, no head work except gsm cams which don't affect compression(i think) and i only have 32000 miles on it

Good info, now I know what to look for if something like this happens to me. Which it hasn't... knock on wood
