BLOW BY
K i have been checking out my turbo setup on my civic and when the car is running and I take off the oil cap...there is some oil blow buy shooting up not a whole lot but it is there...no smoke though? what could this be?
removing the oil cap while running is a simple way to check for blow-by, but if not expierenced it can make you a little paranoid to air rushing out fast for the first time if you dont know what is considered normal. like i tell everyone, get a compression test done, its only like 20 bucks, and lets you know to a good extent what shape your motor is in.
P.S-removing the oil cap is a good way to see if your valves may be burnt or not sealing correctly. correctly checking rings is done with a compression test

please tell me how u ck for burnt valves by removing the oil cap...and doing a compression test dosent tell u that the rings are good....it just tells u compression is good...compression can be low for many reasons...
an expierenced mechanic can tell if there is substancial blow by with his finger tips. we put our old technician to the test on two motors, one with good, one with bad valves, and by removing the oil cap he pointed out the car with bad rings with out having to even check the other one(we gave him the bad one first) it can be done, i once doupted it to, but i was sure proved wrong.
