blockguard yes or no
I have a 95 gsr b18c1 I spun a bearing and in middle of rebuilding it for turbo later on down the road. I plain on using 9.1 cp pistons, eagle rods. I heard good things and bad things about blockguards. I talked to my machine shop and they said they have installed them before with no problems. I know you tap them in to just below deck height before you have the block bored. Are they suppose to be tac welded in? My horsepower goal is around 400-450 with a good tune. So is a blockguard needed for extra security?

Re: (RedneckRicer)
NO DEFINATLY NOT.....
People may argue, but blockguards 1,create "hotspots" on cylinder walls potentially creating detonation. 2 cylinder walls see the greatest amout of stress between the middle and bottom of the cylinder NOT the top,and 3 restrict coolant flow to the head (goes along with number 1),and finally 4,they put uneven pressure on the top of the sleeve that can create an oval,or egg shaped deformity.
simply put....no,your better without one.

Man U FTW
You're going to get a resounding "NO" from most everyone who knows anything about turbo Hondas. They're merely for peace of mind. The sleeves are going to crack with or without a block guard. The only way to prevent that is with aftermarket sleeving.

Yes, like everyone is stated, no need for it. Rather run stock sleeves without the guard then with it. Like peakaboost said, it'll create all those things that was stated...save the money spend on something that'll help.

Re: (FastEg6)
You could even try posting your block which would give the cylinders extra support in the middle where they need it the most. No, I wont tell you how its done, google is your friend
