blockguard w/ boost
just curious, and im sure this topic has been covered before, but i searched archives and nothing came up...but for you people using a block guard as apposed to getting the block sleeved...
how much boost are you running without problems? just curious
thanks

I ran one on a stock LS block to 13psi, no problems, but it's really all in the installation. A B/G should be filed to just drop in, not to fit too snug.
Properly fueled, you should have no problems to 15psi... but nothing's guaranteed.

I pushed 18psi daily, and at times, almost 24psi, on stock sleeves in my D16Y8..
Like X2Board said, its all about the installation + tuning. People who have bad experiences with blockguards obviously didn't have them installed properly and/or bad tuning. I've never had any bad experiences with them, and I've used them on my Civic's old engine (the D16Y8), and am currently using one with my integra.
Blockguard + proper installation =

I'm curious too. I hear some people tap them in a 1/4 of an inch from the top. I've also heard people JB weldind them in so they don't wobble down under high boost when the sleeves might tend to wobble.

take it to a machine shop and have them fit it to your motor. It shouldnt have to be forced in because that can distort the cylinders. Most people also say thay you should bore and hone the cylinders after the installation.
hey kev,
I have a blockguard in one of my OLD b18A1 motors. The STR one is prtty good, i havent looked into other yet. It worked fine with me. Installing it is not a rocket scientist job but fairly simple. I just filed the sides just enough to where it went in nice and put it about 1.4 of an inch down from the top of the cylinder walls. Measured it all the way around to make sure its at the same height all the way around and i was done. Not to hard. Some people get them welded in but i need no use for that. Try PM'ing Stoopid (jason) on this board he deals with a lot of blockguards and tunes LS motors with stock bottom ends.
