Default Block Notching, Engine still in car!?!?

Alright I need to notch my d16Y8 for TT H beam rods.. Has anyone had any experience with notching the block while its still in the car?? I already am to the point.. I just need to get a long extention for the dremel so I can reach it.. Im just nervous as hell with getting shavings in the crank bearings.

its alot easier to take the block to a machine shop and have them do it. if your experienced, you can get the correct bit and go to town but cleaning it out afterwards is gunna be a PITA.

Just go buy another seperate y8 block and build it the right way. This will save you down time with the car. and d blocks are easy to find and cheap.

Good luck with that! Do it the right way, you can either pay now or pay later.

soo...you're putting new rods in and don't plan on taking bearing clearances? and are keeping stock pistons or do you not plan on honing the block either?

dont know who the Fk tell you to do this that way but, this Rod installation must be taken into consideration seriously, it's a big part of block building and IMO, you NEED to take out the engine assembly to get that done properly.

-you will shave about 1/8 deep per 3/4 inch wide from each side of each cylinder, that will trow a big pile of shaving into your engine, and Al shaving dont wipe off easily.

-Not even discuting about the lack of precision you will get with the crank still in place...

- you need to size at least a bit those bearing with plastiguage... if you dont, it will knock and destroy itself in short period of time.

I'm in no way going to tell you how to do this, do it your way... but you will end up with a less precisely built engine, and remember Honda engine are all about clearance.

I would take the engine out, to a stand, build measure, clean each part before reassembly... new water pump, oil pump and seal to get the engine fresh and running strong.
